Is it just me? Or does this thread touch on just about every touchy subject there is out there?

    Global Warming now?

This thread will never die. Ever. Everytime peace arrives, something else is said to give it new life.
Like "topic jumper cables". F'n well thought out too (the way it's just "slipped" in there).

And the "new" bike seems to suck!

Clicking every revolution could be the crankarm hitting the front derailleur cage if it is not adjusted properly and swings too far out.
You already lubed your chain last week, right ? ... should be good for a while.

    Justin,
Have you bought any "road rider for sure" jerseys and bib shorts yet? You know you can't be riding those road bikes without the proper clothing and claim yourself to be a road rider.

Maybe a stupid question but is the clicking from your crank hitting a cable? That happened to me when I was a super noob and I thought my bike was broken.

i might have found the clicking noise. the magnet from my speedometer computer thing was hitting the sensor. that made clicking but i dont think it was teh clicking i was hearing. anyways, im gonna lube my chain today and i fixed that magnet. so after these 2 things, hopefully it went away. but no, it's not hitting against the front cable or anything, i checked all that. does anyone know why it creaks when i go up hills? is that just normal from the bike being under all that pressure because the denali did that too. the denali did it worse but i am just thinking its due to my weight going up the hills. and i just mentioned global warming not breaking my bike, but causing the really hot summers and really cold winters lately. haven't you ever seen day after tomorrow where all the storms and everything come. it's because we use so much energy and so much pollution from the cars. and i never said the mennonites were bad mechanics, they are probably the best because they were raised riding bikes everywhere, so they probably know every in and out of them.

The creaking is exacerbated when you are under full torque load, i.e. going up a hill if there is a problem. My mtb started creaking the other day under high torque loads so when I got it home I lubed the chain and remedied the issue. Most likely your GMC did it because I'm sure that bike was sold to you from Wal Mart without any lube on the drivetrain.

Creaking can be a lot of things:
    bottom bracket
    pedals
    handlebar/stem
    seat/seatpost
    cleats

hey guys, so i was just out and did 25 miles today. got home just in time because it looked like rain. anyways, the creaking is when it's under pressure, it gets worse, ie. going up the hills. i lubed my chain pretty good after cleaning it again and fixed the magnet. the sound is coming from the front crank and i think it's just because of all the weight i am putting on the chain. is this normal? i tried to change all the gears and it pretty much does it throughout. it's annoying but is there any way to fix it at all? i thought lubing the chain would help but it seems like it's worse than yesterday. i think the chain might be hitting the front derailluer cage actually. i dont wanna mess with the front derailluer because all my gears are working wonderfully, just this sound has to go and i am good to go. please help.

its funny because when i had the bike upside down it didn't do it at all. that's why i think it is just normal from my weight. once i lose a little more weight it should stop doing it. my tires are probably only rated for 160 lbs and im like 175 about.

tires have weight ratings? You learn something new every day.

I'm 192lbs so I'm way over my tire rating I suppose. If your crank is creaking, you could have a bad bottom bracket.

See? You should've gotten the Trek 1.1 Justin.
You could've taken it back and had all these little "issues" that keep popping up handled under warranty.
How much is this work for this bike going to cost you now? Live and learn buddy.

Let this be a lesson to all newbs. If you're limited on funds, buy a new bike.
Because when a used bike fails you, it either will cost you to fix it,
or it will be sitting still while you can raise the money to fix it.

I'd say take it to a bike shop and have them diagnose & fix it for you.

You need to pump up the tires - for every lb of bodyweight you add 1 psi. ;>)

well i didnt have money for a new bike and i got a really good deal on this one. i already got the rear cable replaced for free and teh gears fixed and wheels trued. he said he should have done that when he sold me it. i think i just acted over anxious to get it that he didnt bother to do anything. anyways all is well now except that creaking. where is the bottom bracket at?

in your crank housing. I don't recommend trying to tackle this one on your own, if in fact that is the problem.

    damn mennonites.
