Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've enjoyed this immensely. I've been to many of these beautiful places.

OK. I've drummed up a few of my own. Mostly of the River Mountain Trail at Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Las Vegas.

These long horn sheep are on the trail. The bike is coming up from down hill. That is the main basin of Lake Mead in the background. Here, the trail is close to HWY 93, the only time it is close to road noise.

I rode my new commuter this day. It was weighed down with lunch, bags and 3 cameras at 40 lbs. My access route to the River Mountain Trail and the route itself was 40 miles. The slow thing did really great actually.

OK. No water, but immediately to the left is the next picture and there is plenty water.

Yep, plenty water. This bike ride is incredible. I just can't get enough.

Shot from a part of the trail that gets close to Lake Shore Drive. You can ride for 35 miles on the trail then combine the route with 70 miles of Lake Shore Road and Northshore roads. Neither are clouded and both are very peaceful and beautiful.....and fast if you so desire. The trail has no motorized traffic for the duration. Spectacular riding.

Out in the middle of nowhere.

OK, the next one is from a ferry crossing at Mobile Bay on the gulf coast of Alabama about a thousand years ago.

My 84' Le Tour, this bike has less than 100 original miles on it! Just received and installed the Brooks B17 Narrow bought from a member here. (Brewcity24) Cell phone pic.

---------------

My 74' Raleigh Super Course, yes there's water back there somewhere.

Taken in Yorktown with the York river in the background. Sorry for the crap shot, but carrying my 5d or 7d would be to much to lug...

I love it. This bike is a lot of "firsts" for me:

* It's the first bike I've had with campy on it, I love how solid the click in the ergos is, not sold on the thumb paddle and how far back it is.

* It's the first bike I've had that's too BIG for me. It's probably just about right for a vintage geo road bike @ 61cm, but as a cross bike, it's too big. I bought it on craigslist for $400, I figured the parts alone were worth that, and I already had the friend earmarked for the frame when the time came.

* Most importantly, it's the first cross bike I've had, and I'm totally in love with the stopping power. Yeah, the brake shudder is kind of a pain, but holy wow does it stop, not eventually- RIGHT NOW.

Overall, for a steel fork and an oversized alloy frame, it's surprisingly comfortable. It might have something to do with those 16 spoke noodles I have on there though. For the money, I'm not sure I could have found a better bike on craigslist.

Spent the past weekend camping at Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland. Put in rides of 86, 64 and 12 miles in Worcester County ranging from Ocean City down Snow Hill. Beautiful and flat place to ride with cool air, sunny skies, and only light winds. (https://www.visitworcester.org/index....view-trail-100)

Bridge from the main land to Assategue Island

Coffee break along the Pocomoke River in Snow Hill, MD.

Chincoteague Bay from end of the wharf in Public Landing, MD.

The Ocean City, MD beach and boardwalk (fresh crabcakes for lunch ... yummm)
