Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

From Minnesota, Land of 10,000+ Lakes

Hey neat! I've got a few of these...

Lake Nokomis, Minneapolis, MN (from Behind Bars)...

Mississippi River @ Saint Paul, MN - with Jonathan Padelford cruising by...

Same river, play of shadows...

About three miles downstream...

Velo de Ville by Mississippi at sunrise...

His Majesty, King of Bikes, near unknown pond at sunset...

Great Scott! - near the marina...

Does this count?

Many more to come. I've got a lot to work with here...

My current obsession is to build premium city bikes (or "Townies", as people call them now - I prefer the French term: Velo de Ville) out of mid-range to high-end steel road frames. I like internal gear hubs, fenders, and chainguards; and I ride in everyday clothing.

I carry a Leica D-Lux with me on most of my rides, and in Minnesota it is very hard to avoid water at some point on any route. So this thread was made for me!

Keep doing what you're doing because all of those bikes are excellent.

Also, you should post these up in the Ride Pics or Post your SSFG (single speed/fixed gear) threads in the Single Speed/Fixed Gear forum, I bet you'll get quite a bit love over there too.

Rode the Saint Paul Riverfront on Saturday, and came away with several seaworthy scenics... (sorry)

This one is at the barge dock, right alongside the water.

Here is one of the scenic outlooks they put in for people who stroll along the river. Very popular with homeless folks, actually.

Then we have the Minnesota Centennial Showboat:

The High Bridge...

And one last shot from the ride home, on the other side of the river:

This must be incredibly confusing for hipsters.

On the one hand, FIXIE CONVERSION WITH TINY STEM AND PROBABLY EXTRA-NARROW FLAT BARS OMG.

On the other, a nice Madone (?) frame with Mad Fiber wheels = $$$$$$

It's like paying $18 for a can of PBR.

Its actually not a fixie. or a conversion. The bike is a trek District Carbon With the gates belt drive. I use it to commute with and casual rides. the bars are roughly 48cm across lol so they are wider than my road bike bars at 42cm.

but the hipsters do love it

Raleigh Rests by the River

1971 Raleigh DL-1 Rod-Braked Roadster on a rest-stop by the riverside in Hastings, Minnesota, USA.

Although heavy, once rolling, this bike really eats up the miles. Beware of steep hills: it is very heavy going up, and the brakes can barely stop you coming down.
