Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My commute bike (70's Univega) on the new San Francisco / Oakland Bay Bridge, the week it opened to the public last September. Was stuck using the commuter in the interim between having my good bike stolen and getting it replaced. Flat bars and saddle have since been swapped out. Now if only they would extend the bike path to the other half of the bridge all the way to the SF.

Yes and no.

I could use them if I ever needed to do so ... but I can't ride leaning over like that. In fact, those handlebars need to be raised a bit for me to be really comfortable.

I understand completely.

In fact, after seeing yours, I may pull mine back a bit.

Genuinely curious. How do you brake from that position, and why not use a different bar setup that trekking bars or moustache bars or flatbars?

It's not as "bad" as it appears in the photo. I've never had any difficulty braking. And I have gone with bullhorn bars on one bicycle and will again on the next one ... but I still like the hand position options of the drop bars.
