Clicking Seat Post
 

I recently installed a Ritchey Pro Carbon seat post (alloy with CF wrap) on my Ti frame.

Now I am getting this clicking sound any time I hit a sharp bump. I tightened the seat angle/position bolts against the Ritchey Pro Streem saddle’s Chro-Mo rails really good. The seat post is hand tight and the contact point of the Ti and CF seatpost is coated lightly with CF assembly compound. I had my local bike shop check it and they said the seat angle/position bolts are usually the culprit and they need to be tightened.

Unfortunately, I do not have a torque wrench so I don’t know if the seat post bolt is too tight or too loose.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I did not have this issue with the Ritchey Pro alloy post.

my gf's bike was making a weird noise it turned out to be an issue with the saddle rails

Grease the clamp where the rails are clamped and any place where 2 peices come together.

i would suggest the same.

Mine was making a noise similar to yours. It turned out I over tightened the seatpost clamp. When I torqued it to spec the sound went away.

I disassembled the seat rail clamps, lubed the threads, lubed the contact points (but not the rails), and it seemed to work better. The clicking has been 90% eliminated. I still get one when I get off the saddle to stand and pedal. I will have to buy that torque wrench and torque the seat post.

I'm afraid of not tightening enough because I don't want it to slide down and scratch the CF. That happened on the aluminum post and it looks like the graphics and lettering on the post were literally erased.

My friend had the same click he applied carbon paste to the entire seat post were its down in the frame tube the noise is from down below the clamp were the post is inside it moving around slightly the paste took up the gap and stopped the noise.
Grease on a carbon post may make it slip beat to use carbon paste on it.

I put carbon assembly goop (the reddish/pink stuff) on the seat post area when I first installed it and after I wiped whatever grease/oily residue was around it. I will put the goop further down throughout the whole unexposed post.
