Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

alternatives to fizik bar tape

My fizik bar tape is incredibly slippery now that it is hot outside and my hands sweat (don't use gloves). Any recommendations for tape that is thin and does not get slippery when wet? Thanks

(redacted by moderator) I run Fizik tape on all my bikes, in all conditions. It is never slippery.

Bontrager is close to Fizik.
But yeah, Fizik is the best.
I like both a lot.

Which Fizik tape are you using OP?

I like Specialized tape, but I wear gloves and have never had slipperiness problems with any tape.

I had the same issue while riding in Mississippi. Sweaty hands made my brand new Fizik tape feel slippery. Other than that I do love how it feels.

It might not be popular around here, but this stuff really does work well in wet conditions:

https://ecom1.planetbike.com/tape5080.html

I use that on my Portland, OR commuter and ride through our rainy season and have never had a problem. They even market that it "Becomes tacky when wet for better grip".

From the pics it looks kind of... ugly. Do you have any pics of it wrapped?

How is Lizard Skin when your hands get sweaty? I don't normally wear gloves.

Deda or Cinelli cork seems to work pretty well.

Newbaum's. Thinner and better grip than Fizik.

You just answered your own question.

DSP is also easy to clean with castile soap (like Dr. Bronners); just wipe on some soap, work it in with a sponge, and then rinse off.

The tape costs 3x as much as nornal tape but lasts much, much longer, stays cleaner, and has excellent grip in all conditions, with or without gloves, with or without sweat.

I'll toss in another vote for Lizzard Skin. Retains its tacky feel even when wet.

not really a big fan of the deda cork. fizik microtex has very minimal padding, unlike the cork that i've tried in the past.

i only use fizik microtex so i don't know any alternatives but stay away from deda if you like little to no padding in your tape.

Yes, I found the suede one to be quite gripy. I think you'd like it.
