Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding with the naked cyclists...

Saturday was the Fremont Solstice Festival. I went to check it out, and went by bike because taking a car would be a terrible mistake. I enjoyed a relaxed, slow ride, and was passed by several naked people, even on flat bar bikes. Found a spot on the sidewalk to stand with my bike, and watched the parade go by.

Later that day I went on a longer, hill-climbing ride, and a drunken homeless man yelled at me to take my clothes off. For the next month or so, Seattle will forget about lance, and anyone on a bike will be yelled at for having clothes.

Our city's helmet law has an exemption for people who aren't wearing pants.

Google knows about lots of photos from the event, but I'm having trouble finding any I can post here.

I saw that on TV last week there was a nude ride in NYC I think it was... Strange. Can you imagine the road rash location reports?

There used to be a naked ride in town. Then the cops threatened to arrest and charge people with indecent exposure. Nothing like a little sex offender registration to scare people away.

Not sure what the appeal of this is, but there are a lot of things I don't understand.

wut

I've never seen such an event, but my wild guess is that the percentage of participants I'd just as soon not see naked is over 90%.

I saw a naked lady on a 2010 Cervelo RS. The one with the classy gray paint. It was love at first sight.

Last year on my way to the event, a cop yelled at me for not having a helmet, telling me what the fine would be. He was silent when the helmetless naked people went by.

"Mostly slow, naked rides"

I've seen a few in different cities and definitely thought it looked like fun but a crash would be exceptionally awful

I felt a little over-dressed in regular clothes.

All of the naked people are decked out in body paint. I noticed that a few people were losing paint around their asses, and I wonder how much work it is to clean the saddle after a ride like that?

One lady had a drum mounted on her cargo rack. Somehow, she had her bike set up so every time she pedaled, a mallet would strike the drum. It was pretty cool. You could hear her from a mile away.

My LBS was open during the parade, with their front door facing a road that was closed off for the procession. I doubt they got any business. I went in before it started to grab a Cervelo catalog.

Why is it the people who want to be naked shouldn't be and the ones you'd like to see won't be ---
