Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Granted I don't have experience with Cervelo, but I dont quite understand why they didn't route the cable through the side of the headtube.

That cable routing is awkward, fugly, and doesn't strike anyone as particularly aero. My LBS has told me repeatedly it makes it harder to set up mechanical rear derailleur systems, particularly with some handlebar internal routing schemes that create overly-serpentine cable routing angles with the S2/3 cable path. All I can tell you is that I really couldn't get 7900 to work right with it, and I tried for a couple of years. Di2 works flawlessly of course. Electrons don't care about cable routing.

All this means is that if you get an S2/3/5 you have to get Di2. Win-win.

Good find fellas. It does look a lot like the bastard off spring of a S3, and a P3. Very interesting....

PCAD, you have the worst version of the cable routing the ICS2 only was made in 2009. Sell your bike, and buy an ICS3 bike. It's better on them, I am sure this is no exception.

I've been looking at these pics for quite some time now. I gotta say, I think this bike isn't near as good looking as the S2/S3. I think it is the tall ugly head tube that kills it. Other parts of it strike me as visually appealing so hopefully that head tube is a lot more aero than it's predecessors. That being said, these bikes are not about looks, they are about winning, and they are tools to achieve wins upon. If it is more aero, and just as stiff as an S2. I am all for it. I would expect this to be the case, otherwise they would not of came out with a new bike.

I like the bike from this angle, it almost looks good if you don't look at the head tube.

Also from the pics I cannot tell if it is BBwrong or not. Hard to tell. I hope it isn't, but in any event, I am glad I have a 2011 S2 on the way.

That is why I bought a 2008 SLC because of your whining about ICS2. That and, well the paint scheme of the SLC was way better. Fortunately for me, I'll be getting a new better ICS3 of the 2011 S2. So it's no concern for me, and I'll have my wonderful shifting, lighter than thou Red group upon thee. The only thing better than an aero road bike, is of course a light aero road bike.

The cable routing on newer S-series bikes is a non-issue. I've built enough to know you have to be some kind of maroon to mess it up.

Profoundly incorrect. My LBS has built and sold more high end bikes than you will ever see in your pathetic Fredly life.

The 2011 S2's are available in Black. I requested a black frame. Not sure if I'll be getting a black one or not, but I requested a black one. The 2011's in black although they don't look as good as an SLC, I think they are the best color combo since the SLC.

The place I am getting my bike warrantied through had about 20 or so Cervelos on display. I asked them about the routing, and they said they have no issues with it. Also it is more aero than the old SLC routing. You don't need a degree in aeronautical engineering to see that. So if the new ICS3 works good, it's a win, win situation.

Actually, I do think the truth lies somewhere between, that the original top tube internal cable routing on the 09's was effed, and that it was the combination of the K-Wing bar routing and the 09 S2 frame. They've also had issues with other mechanical groups, but mainly on frames before they changed the internal routing. I do think my particular situation was the worst.

Good excuse to buy Di2. Now I'm a happy camper.

Oh, then it must be true. Nobody would EVER lie about a major flaw in the product line that supports their bike shop.

Not for nothing, but that cable routing on that bike is Utter Fail on esthetic issues alone. Get a grip.

Obviously they do not know what they are doing, or they would of sold him a 2011 S2, and Red instead of the stupid Di2 he keeps raving about. They would of made more money off of him, and he would of ended up with a better bike in the end. Instead he winds up with his inspector gadget mobile, with one water bottle, and a cluster fark of wires balled up under his handlebars. They are only screwing themselves, and PCAD over by making themselves less money, and making PCAD more Fredly.

They also sell Trek, and Felt as well. Felt ARs use a similar routing setup, and I have heard of no problems with it either. Felt sponsor'ss my friend's team, and several of their riders use the AR with Sram, and no problems. There truly is a reason why ICS2 only lasted one year(2009). Besides they are not making any money off of me, they are just handling a warranty claim.
