Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have had a pair of Oakley FJs for the last six years. Got them on drastic sale for $59. They have taken a beating: dropped, stepped-on, and, thrown off into the gravel during the worst crash I've experienced. They still continue to live on, a bit bruised, a bit dull--but still alive and working. Definitley worth the money.

Thanks. There is something to be said for that distinctive Rudy look but the optics have to be better to make them worth it.

Your experience with the speed of changeability has been different? If I go from total shade into bright sunlight, it takes about 15 seconds for them to go dark. Hard to tell if they continue to get darker afterwards but they probably do. Sunshine-to-shade takes longer, though.

I'm using a pair of some polarized Tifosi glasses. I'm tempted to get a set of on-line prescription sunglasses though. The oakleys look nice but they are way too pricey for me. Besides - I have a habit of scratching and dropping glasses too often to pay big bucks for them.

I have Oakley Jaw Bones. They may not be the cheapest option, but I love them. Huge viewing radius, I think the lens color is called ice iridium, you can hardly tell your even wearing glasses. I love them.

Oakley Jawbones. They are absolutely necessary IMO for cycling, and I love them to death. They never fog, and have great vision for the road. The Black Iridium lenses even work great in low light. I've been in two wrecks and the sunglasses have gone flying across the road. I don't even have paint chips in them, they are slightly scuffed up, but can't even tell until you feel them. Lenses look basically brand new, even with horrible salt drying on them constantly. I won't ever go back to non-oakely sunglasses again.

Anything made by Smith. They stand by their product. Something that Oakley does not based on personal experience.

I got my Uvex SGL 602 on sale for $30 at performance. I wear them a lot more than my expensive glasses that I wasted money listening to the hype.

I've tried everything from $3.50 to $150+ as a cyclist and runner. (Cycling glasses do have slightly different requirements due to the foward lean.)

I'm back to the basics after losing my last set of Tifosi fotochromatics.

This is what I've been rocking:
https://www.safetyglassesusa.com/dpg54-2d.html

I sweat so much that all those fancy optics are useless for me - you get one drop fo sweat on those Oakleys, and it's game over for whatever $250+ optics you spent your money on.

In terms of function, these are every bit as good as the others I've used. Note that you do have to try on different types of brands - some safety glasses didn't work for me (slid off my nose, etc.) so this one worked best for my face.

I def prefer the looks of the Oakleys, don't get me wrong, but I'm just no longer interested in paying $200 for sunglasses when $3.50 ones function equally well for me.

I use Rudy Project direct Rx and have two lenses. Photo red and dark grey polarized. I been using them for biking, running and driving for the last two years and they have seen plenty of sweat. No issues. I wipe off the crystallized salt from time to time when it gets in the crevises or when I switch lenses. FWIW, my optician friend who also sold Oakleys told me that their lenses suck.

I currently use the Tifosi Pave with Fototec lenses. I like that I don't need to worry about changing the lens for various light, however, they don't go "light" enough if it's getting dark.

I also have some Tifosi Pave with interchangeable lenses.

Funny thing is that they fit differently. The interchangeable set easily fits my melon over the helmet straps, the fototec set...not so much.
Will look into moving the fototec lenses to the other pair.

The Tifosi Roubaix is nice for riding in rain because it vents very well and has excellent coverage.

The Jawbone is excellent for me in the bright afternoons when I want full sun protection for my eyes as it closes off all the corners from bleed-in light.

The jawbone doesn't do so well in the high humidity and the inside of the lens fogs up (even with vented lenses). The Roubaix does not have full coverage below being a half closed frame and sometimes the light from pavement or other objects below irritates my eyes on the exceptionally bright days.

Both do an excellent job of keeping the bugs and wind out of my eyes.

Material and construction are all moot to me. I got the jawbones because they look sweet and I went custom with two tone frame etc... the Tifosi are completely for functional purposes and fit their application 100%.

Any suggestions?
What did you use to clean the lenses? If you anything other than the carry bag (like paper towels, etc) that could be the issue.

I have several pair never scratched, but the bag or a very soft cloth can only be used.

I have a pair of $10 running sunglasses that I wear when riding. They're lighter than the flak jackets (I have a pair of those too) and they still cover 100%. Also the "arms" bow out a bit so I wear my helmet straps under the arms. (Compared to the flak jacks that hug the side of your face).

And yes 100% UVA and UVB protection.

The funny thing is I actually wear the flak jackets when I run because they stay in place better. (But I'm also not wearing a helmet when I run.)

I've been using these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$13 for a pair of polarized glasses is hard to argue with. For evening riding I go with the $3 clear safety glasses.

I've been very tempted by the photochromatic lenses though...
