Need new shorts/jersey

Hello everybody! Went on a ride today and my cheap $20 shorts were causing my a lot of pain/discomfort. I also want to get a new jersey because my current one absorbs a lot of sweat. Price for both combined has to be below $100. Any opinions? I do want to get bibs, but I don't think I will find any good ones in my price range.

If you want good bibs on a budget, you may want to try aerotechdesigns and love2pedal .com. I have worn their bib shorts on 60 mile rides and they are very comfortable.

However, if you are a new rider, your pain and discomfort may not be from the shorts.

How long have you been riding?

fishymamba 06-28-11 10:14 PM

Have been riding since last September. Starting to ride more frequently now.

My local club is offering Canari bibs for $50. Good deal?

Beaker 06-28-11 10:20 PM

It's hard to beat the Voler kit from Hammer Nutrition for price. I really like the quality and fit of Voler - Hammer's prices are $36 for the jersey and ~$70 for bibs. Throw in a 15% discount for your first order and you're south of $100. If you're interested I can give you my customer number for the discount.

Anyone ever tried these? https://www.kbcyclewerks.com/store/c...ith-c-tex-pad/

You probably don't want to wait, but since you are in SoCal you may want to consider the Canari warehouse sale that takes place in May and November. You can buy their best jerseys for $20.00.

Performance Ultra shorts (bibs are $10 more+/-) and a classic jersey work great and will meet your price, particularly when they run one of their frequent sales. The Ultras are excellent and the jersey wicks sweat very well.

DNA Italico bibs are pretty good for their price, 45 bucks reg, 35 on sale. Get 1 size up. I don't use them as much as my specialized, but they do get a lot of use and I am pleased with them.

Any polyester jersey will do the trick. Try and get a returned item from nashbar, Louis Garneu or the likes. Less than 75 bucks all together.

I think it depends on which bibs they are. Canari has bibs and shorts that run from low priced crap to pretty good stuff depending on now much you spend. I bought four pair of their best shorts for $25 a pair at their last warehouse sale. They had the same quality in bibs for either $30 or $35 but I don't wear bibs so I really didn't pay much attention.

The shorts I bought had their king pad which is better than the pad in my $120 Pearl Izumi shorts.

Want Castelli bibs and a jersey for $30? I've worn the jersey twice and bibs once. Only limitation... They're both Small. (I have a 31" waist and am 5'8")

Otherwise, I'll try to sell them on CL~

If he doesn't take you up, I'll certainly take you up on your offer. PM me the model/color and your paypal.

If you want some super cheap jerseys, order from the Amgen TOC store:

http://amgentourofcaliforniastore.co...b5c8fiaqjb43i0

All the $30 jerseys are $15 after code SALEATOC. They are Hincapie and Voler jerseys that retail for $70. Shipping for 2 items is $10. Add CA tax too. I think they have some bibs for half off as well. I placed an order yesterday, it shipped from LA today, and has a set delivery date for tomorrow.

Sorry, but I don't care HOW cheap it is, I'm not wearing a jersey with such distasteful slogans.

Beaker 06-28-11 10:59 PM

I'm pretty sure Amgen don't sanction the off label use of their products for cycling

like their jerseys well enough, and one model is really nice for hot weather summer weight, but when I checked out the shorts (same fabric as bibs) it was definitely rougher fabric than I like.

I'd say, don;t be too picky on the jersey, plenty to choose from out there - spend the dough on the bibs or shorts. Being comfortable down there is key to having good rides. Some Canari styles are good value for budget stuff, Voler always seems to put out good stuff for very reasonable (bottoms, I'n not crazy about their jersey fabric), you can find some PI stuff for reasonable, Bellwether also has some very acceptable stuff for tight budgets. A lot of riders like the PB stuff, I find it fits me too funny for it to be comfortable for me. ymmv
Really unless you know for sure how the fit will work, buying mail order is always a crap shoot. and by all means, do get 2 pr
you don;t wanna get caught doin this...

REI is running a sale now. I got the Sugoi shorts for $50. They are fine. They are higher quality than the Performance shorts which they will replace. Need to decide if I will buy 2 more or wait for a different sale and experiment with other brands.

Slogans?

K&K_Dad 06-30-11 03:30 AM

I'd rock an AToC jersey. specially the KotM one considering my location.

California is no longer a State, but a state of mind. So is Austin.

Keep your distasteful slogans.
