Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Great Contador is down on his rivals early in the TdF. This might be the most exciting tour in years, much better than Contador just running off with the maillot jaune.

Seriously, Contador is in a different league. I'm still counting on a beat down in the High Mountains and the Individual Time trial.

I'm liking this simply because Contador has to attack.

Nothing worse than seeing the yellow jersey effortlessly marking someone

I guess no-one remembers the saddles that had the 'back rest on them that sparked the need for any kind of rule in the first place. I think the point was to eliminate the possibility of any variation on this design because it gave the riders so much more leverage and it was considered unfair.

The crap that happen at the tour before stage 2 has little to do with this, however.

After 2+ years of effing around with my own TT bike position, I can tell you from personal experience that it can be a HUGE factor in rider comfort and your ability to sustain an effective TT bike position. My seat is angled down a couple of degrees. If it were purely horizontal it would literally feel like there was a RR tie up my ass on the TT bike when I'm on the aero bars. Every individual is different. The fact that the UCI even has that rule just underscores what idiots they are. The fact that they decide to arbitrarily enforce it (after not doing so) on the day of the TTT in the biggest race of the season is just beyond the pale. Most of pro cycling's problem is that the organization that runs it are a bunch of pompous self-absorbed jackwagons.

Who is the rider that just gave the camera the wet willy? Have to appreciate his sense of humor.

So, when does the solo commentator go away and the pair join in? Just curious.

This is the first time ever watching the tour de france for me. I never realized how fun it is. I guess you have to get in to the sport to really enjoy watching it. I am just glued to the TV.

And todays stage is BORING. Even so I love it. My family thinks I'm nuts but that's okay. It's my time of the year to claim the TV and ban "So you think you
can Dance", "The Bachelorette", and "Keeping Up With The Kardidiots".

LOL kardidiots. Yeah compared to team time trials, today's is kinda boring but still fun to watch. The time trial event was just nuts. I loved it. Makes me want to go out and get a TT bike. lol.

If it affects individual riders that much, why would they enforce a horizontal rule then? It's just seat position. Not a mini rocket attached underside of the saddle. (This is my first time watching the race since I got into cycling this January. Some of these rules make no sense to me.). I spent 30 minutes one day fine tuning my saddle just so the pressures were in the EXACT spots I wanted them to be. If someone moved mine, I would have to bow out of the race if it were a distance greater than 20+ miles.
