Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Red GXp or SRAM Force BB30?

I will be getting a replacement frame soon and it will have a BB30 bottom bracket. I am not sure what I should do. My current setup is a Sram Red crank which I could switch over to the new frame with adapters, or I could spring for a BB30 crank (probably Force since there is only 15 grams difference between them). What would you guys do? Is there enough difference between BSA and BB30 that it makes sense to switch, or just run with what I have?

If you install an adapter, can it be removed later? If not, then the answer is obvious.

If you need a lot of heel clearance, BB30 cranks have more than threaded BB cranks do. If you don't need that, and the insert can be removed, then all you're getting is a weight savings. It's up to you if that's worth the cost.

There are claims that you're also getting more stiffness and better durability on the bearings. No idea how well those have been verified.

I'm in the same boat. I already have a GXP Red crank when I got my System Six. I didn't want to pop for a new crank at the time...so I just ran an adapter. You can run an adapter that uses the BB30 bearings.

The two things I am a little concerned about are the fact that I will at some point want to switch to BB30 for this frame, so spending money on an adapter seems like a waste of money (I know not that much, but still). The other thing is that the adapter I was looking at from Wheels Manufacturing "looks" like it will squeak and creak. I have tried to do a little research on it, but haven't really found all that much. Does yours make a lot of noise? And who made it?
