Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Audible clicking when I pedal?

Hey guys,

been cruising on my Trek 1.2 the past couple days and I have been noticing a troubling sound... when I am riding down the road pedaling, I can hear and audible *click* noise. It is random (IE not when my foot hits a certain spot in the spin) and happens only when I am pedaling.

Does anyone have a suggestion for things to try? Not pedal makes it stop so it isn't a wheel or something. My chain is lubed and the gears are adjusted so it isn't that. Not sure what else it could be besides the bearing for the pedal to frame area...

By the way it doesn't happen all through the the spin like a free wheel, it is more 1-2 times per revolution of my feet. Any suggestions for things to check would be awesome!

Had a noise issue that turned out to be the springs (not the spindle) on my Look Keo pedals. Drove me nuts, till the bike shop figured it out. A little light oil fixed it up.

could it be your cassette? i notice that when i dont quite keep up with my spin, sometimes early in my downstroke, ill re-ingage my cassette, and the components will cause a click much more solid than the cassette freewheeling.

I read something recently where a guy had a loose bolt on his chain ring. These sounds are often difficult to track down, so you have to try everything.

Try something simple first, check to make sure the pedals are on tightly.

Make sure the front derailleur cable is not sticking out and being hit by your pedal. Sometimes they don't cut them short enough.
