Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fixed Gear Fail - VIDEO

What more could you POSSIBLY ask for? The wheels. The capri jeans. The bleached mullet. The...everything. It's perfect.

I am resisting "sharing" this on facebook. I would hate to offend my "hipster" highschool friends, hehe, thanks for the vid.

I think it's awesome that somehow you're on another level of lycra-jock hipster whilst the poor masses with better taste in music huddle with their cheap steel whips.
Keep on jerkin' it to your overpriced major label bikes and your doped up heroes....

will do, everything I do is out of necessity. Was is necessary for that kid to make his hair look like that? was it necessary for him to wear a belt even though his pants were to small and hanging off his arse?

Is it necessary to play dress-up to ride a bike? As for the hair, it's a matter of opinion. I'm sure some folks might think shaved legs are hella dumb. What's the obsessing with the pants? Are you one of those gangster dudes with the baggy jeans? Some folks can ride bikes without Bibs.

As I commented on another thread featuring this video, if the dude knew how to wheelie he would've had a few more seconds to think about what to do and if he was smart he would've walked off the back of the bike at that point.

Unfortunately he went for a little pop up of the front wheel and fell to his fate.

One suggestion in the other thread was that the videographer rigged his nuts.

Wheels don't pop out just like that. He either forgot to tighten the nuts- or the videographer is an arsehole.

It's still amusing to see members of one sub-group bash another sub-group over perceived superiority of "claimed" items that are relatively easy to use, like a bike. How sad it must be to tie oneself to the same song and dance, or for some folks, bad mullets.

We know return you to your regularly scheduled Triathlete bashing program...

Imagine if he was running clip-ons with pink/black/white confetti tape!

I wish I could find my favorite fixie fail vid. There's a kid riding atop some banks (concrete riverbed with somewhat steep sides) and he does a wheelie or maybe even a barspin, I forget. Anyways he eventually bails to his right foot which is well down into the slope of the bank at this point so he's firmly staddling the top tube.

It gets ugly heading down a 25° slope with one foot in and one foot out...

Yeeeouch!

Did I miss something? I don't see how this is related to fixies. It seems obvious to me his front wheel was not properly attached. I'm a wrong?

the belts are "cool points" the more spikes, the more cool points. only thing ive figured with these guys with spandex jeans...

i ride without bibs, but only cause im new, theyre in the budget 1000mi from now , only reason i'd buy those jeans is theyre as aero as bibs, but im not gay, so ill stick with gym shorts haha! and the hair? not a matter of opinion, a matter of sanity!

you know... Long socks, Tight pants with rolled up legs is URrr... disgusting but the mullet takes the cake.

AND

Tight pants actually look nicer than baggy G-gangster jeans, much nicer except when you are fat and rolling up the legs like he did.

And anyone wearing cotton gym pants outside of a gym or his house is officially doing it wrong. No matter what you do with them. EVEN if they are the most comfortable pants in your whole wardrobe, they make you look lazy and careless.

Funny story, broke my collarbone when I was like 11. Well, about 4 weeks later, I was riding a friends bike because it was nice and he left it outside next door to me. Decided to do some wheelies, mid air, the front wheel falls off. But, I was already committed to letting it back down on the ground, too late...fell, crash..re-broke my collarbone (man that sh&t hurt as bad as the first time). But I toughed it out.

Went to doctors 2 weeks later, mind you, I didn't tell mom/dad/anybody what happened. Dr. took an XRay..came back in the room and was like WTF?!?!? Your collarbone has been re-broken, or you have been active and moving it around not allowing it to heal at all??

Well, needless to say, he said, I will fix this problem. He wrapped my upper body/shoulders/left collarbone ace bandages, tape and a brace, then more ace bandages/tape. I was like a mummy for the next 6 weeks.

Lessons learned:

1) Check front wheel to ensure it won't fall off before riding it.
2) Don't try wheelies on a bike while you are healing from a broken collarbone.
