Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bontrager Race Lite or Velocity Aerohead/shimano 600

Im deciding between two wheelsets at the moment. An almost new Bontrager Race Lite 20 spoke with new tires for $150(maybe less?) and an older Velocity AERO head 32 spoke on shimano 600 hubs for $50 w/o tires. The bontragers seem like the more modern/expensive wheelset, but I commute on some rough roads and frequently cross train tracks. Getting a good deal on a wheel that isn't going to last isnt a good deal. Any opinions on the choice of these two wheel sets for rough city riding?

Depends. Do you want durable (600 hubs) or cool (Bontrager)?

I have to agree - Aerohead/600.

Though I did commute for 3 years and 12K miles on seriously rough roads on a set of Bonty Race Lites with no problems.

I ended up getting the aero/600's, the lady lived right down the road from me. The wheels were in great shape, and she threw in a whole bunch of extras she had lying around. Got some shimano SPD-R cleats, look pedals, CO2 inflater, saddle, sram cassette, and some marranoni bars with stem(had aeros on it, but I didnt need them so she took em off). Pretty happy for $50 bucks.
