Uh Oh.... I Just Got The Serious I Wants.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Uh Oh.... I Just Got The Serious I Wants.

I was at my LBS today (the coolest LBS ever, BTW) hanging out re-watching the final stage of TdF and drinking coffees they were making (this place is thaaaat cool) and I decided to buy a garmin 500... all in all I spent about two hours shooting the **** there.

wellllllllllll while I was there, I kept looking over at a BMC Team Machine that they just put on display because of Cadel. I think it's funny that several people came into the shop saying "do you sell BMC? I saw Cadel Evans win on a BMC."

Long story short, I went for a spin on the Team Machine, thinking about my lowly Road Racer SL01 that I bought back at the end of May. I LOVE my bike, but this thing OMG.... it was like a really light version of mine. I didn't notice much difference in the ride quality, aside from the much nicer wheelset. Talk about responsive to my amateur'ish pounding on the pedals... it was like butter.

So now I am on the computer checking prices for that frameset. I'd buy it from my LBS no doubt, those guys are the coolest, but I want to figure out how I can afford it.

Does ANYONE in this forum have the 2011 Team Machine? Is it a worthwhile upgrade? How much do you think I can get for my SL01 frameset that has approx. 650 miles on it? I would swap all my parts over... is an Ultegra build on a Team Machine stupid? I'd like any opinions on the difference between the two frames as well.

I WANT SO BAD!

I think you answered that.

PS: It's not gonna make getting up that hill any easier.

With the same wheels and bits, you might not even notice the difference between the two bikes.

LMAO.... yeah I know.

It's just a cool bike. Back in February I was lusting after a Dogma after seeing it in a magazine, then I got on one and hated every second of it. I've always lusted after the SLR01, but riding that was not disappointing in the least bit like the Dogma. I was hard while I went around Downtown Scottsdale's roundabouts pretending I was racing people.

Your humor wasn't missed, though. I have a feeling I'll not be able to enjoy being the only guy I see on a BMC for much longer.

we had that conversation today too. I have two LBS, one for mtb and one for road. My mtb shop owner is a serious BMC hater, and talks **** about my bike every time he sees it. I walked in there today to pick up some nutrition and saw him paging through some BMC dealer stuff on the website. Turns out he is interested in carrying some BMC mtn bikes. He said he had a couple of customers already asking if it was a new brand and if it was the best.... rolleyes.

BTW, I love your picture of alberto punching the surgeon. That is my second favorite highlight of the tour after jonny hoogerland getting intimate with some barbed wire.

there are a ton of classic moments for me to have sigs for days...

It's like the people who think Trek is amazing simply because Lance rode them...or Specialized because of AC. blah blah....Of course they are good bikes...most companies make good and crappy bikes. It's all about what you want specifically for yourself..i for one won't buy a brand because somebody else won with it...that's just silly

I'm not sure how that's a highlight to you. I winced every time I saw it on replay.

I don't know about all that crap, but I found myself coveting Cadel's BMC TT bike that he rode Saturday with the Di2 (detailed pics in Velonews).

I've expended many a click on the bmc racing site. I love the red/black combos. But in the end the only thing within my budget/needs is the replica bib/shorts pack.

I have been lusting over a team machine and SL01 for some time now. I would love to pick up a frameset but I think my wife would have a fit as I just got my Madone a year ago. Maybe one more year out of this frame and I can upgrade.

BMC distributors here in Australia are seeing some pretty serious interest this week as you can probably imagine. I'm seriously considering a Race Machine frameset myself. Yes I know it's the same as the "lance-rides-trek" effect but I can't help it.

It would be a great bike if you zip-tied some aerobars to it. Seriously, that's who I thought of when I read this post.

If you can't afford more than $50 a day to stay in SD, WTF would you even be thinking about silly things like this.

Afford vs. can't justify are two different things. I'm not into paying money to sleep when I can spend money on food, bikes, clothing, etc. I think spending big money on hotels is lame.

Have you seen CSI before? Sometimes I think it's better to pay a little extra for a 3 star than a motel.
