I dunno why, but I wonder: why add to a thread with dozens of replies?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I dunno why, but I wonder: why add to a thread with dozens of replies?

I wonder about this whenever I see 50 or so replies to a question about something like fixing a flat or choosing a component: after eight or 10 people have weighed in, what's left to say? What are the chances you're going to add something the first 25 people missed? What are the chances anybody will even READ comment No. 117? Or No. 5300(!) in the "Most recent cycling-related purchase" thread?
I guess something like "share your rude driver horror story" could go on forever, but even then, who's going to scroll down 10 pages?

Every 1000 BF posts, 1mph gets added to yer avg speed. Definitely adds up after a few years.

It is easy to add something new when 45 out of 50 posts are smart remarks and references to PCad

and yes this belongs in the incessant roadie section.

My wife asked me what was my deal with internet forums, and I honestly couldn't explain it, other than my deep desire to share knowledge.

And also, as shuagster said, to up my post count.

QFT. It's not always the case but 2/3 threads end up like this.

I have 3-4 favorite forums and BF is definitely the most entertaining

There isn't only 10 ways to do things. Just in the practice of cleaning my drive train I have changed the way I do things so many times. Besides, it's not like we are all experts here. Always room to learn.

Some things I could do without are +1's, "that goes without saying", and such.
