Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Happened at a race here last here. Someone put tacks on the course even between races, not just before where it could have been swept up by diligent race volunteers. Ended up with a handful of people crashing out. Some people are nuts.

When I was at the 1994 Junior Nationals, someone had placed tacks along the road race course. Locals suspected a certain farmer who's property was along the route, but had no proof.

Sounds like residents do it to discourage all bicyclists, even when races aren't occuring.

I'd love to see a little diligent LEO work to find the repeat offending twits and place felony charges on them. Real tough to do, but a dreamers gotta dream....
