Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nice scenic rides in Newport Beach?

Planning to get my girlfriend into cycling I got her a road bike. Are there any nice rides in Newport Beach or Newport Coast? I was looking to get some ideas from locals here on the forum who ride there. Planning to go on a 40-mile ride tomorrow with minimal climbing.

Oceanside will work too ))

Please advise!

Back Bay to PCH to Balboa Ferry ($2?) to the beach bike path all the way to Long Beach should make for a nice 40 miler.

If your GF is just starting out, I would just do Back Bay alone and may be add some extra miles through Irvine (San Diego Creek Trail). I think the BB loop is 10 miles.

She can do 20-30 miles easily as long as it's scenic and not too steep We don't ride fast together, usually 15mph. And I thought I would slowly bring her up to speed to go on longer rides, as santa monica is already too boring. We really enjoy riding on the weekends, stopping by for some sandwiches, and back on the road.
