Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the "D" stands for Dura Ace? So it only make sense since Ultegra has the electronic shifting... Ui2 for the Ultegra and Di2 for the Dura Ace.

Does anyone know if the Allez Frameset has an all carbon fork now? I noticed it doesn't specify AL fork bits in the tech specs, where as last year it did.

thanks.

Same thoughts. I was very excited about picking up an Allez/Secteur this year but they just don't inspire me. Felts seem to be the somewhat better deal this year.

Looks like Cannondale had a good idea with the CAAD10 with better components and wheels...now there's an aluminum Allez for $2100 MSRP. The wheels are about right, too - DT Swiss w/24 spokes front, 28 rear. Downside is that they switched to an oversized BB of some kind.

That's why I said "tell it to SPECIALIZED". Geez.. have you ever noticed how you post something, and right when you post it you're thinking I bet somebody's going to respond with "blah blah blah" because they miss the subtlety in the post? It happens all the time with me.

Sometimes I try to preempt most of the replies with advance clarification and unnecessary detail, but somebody always finds the ONE thing that you failed to make 4-year old understandable.

/rant

(EDIT: I'm not really aiming this at you. As the phenomenon happens quite frequently, it is probably my inability to make my posts sufficiently clear that is to blame. But it is still annoying -- hence the rant.)

Do you think other manufacturers like giant will follow the hefty price? I like the Black/Yellow Tarmac Elite Rival, but I'm finding it way too expensive. If I'm going to buy one I will have to wait till Aug/September 2012 to get it discounted.

Di2 actually stands for "Digital Integrated Intelligence"
But since the release of Ultegra Di2, Ui2 is the term many sites and stores use. Just because of the common misconception that the "D" stands for Dura-Ace.

And there's no such thing as a 'brifter' either, but you know what someone means when they say it and it's become an acceptable cycling term. 99% of the cycling community is calling this Ui2. Feel free to write out Ultegra Di2 anytime you want, but get used to seeing Ui2.

I was going to get a new tarmac frame this year, but not for $3k. I know the pro frame is improved this year, but last year's pro model was around $2k (50% price increase?). They really need a frame around the $2k price point. It also looks like they don't offer a frame with a "regular" bottom bracket any more, so I assume I'd be looking at a new crank as wll (another $300+). I'm a specialized fan, but at $3,300 to replace my existing frame/crank, I'll have to go with another option.

I too was all set to buy a 2012 Specialized as an upgrade, but now with the new prices 2 years in a row it's out of my reach. Trying to hit a moving target is a bit frustrating, and in the end I'll end up having to look at one of the other brands for 2012.

If I'm reading the charts properly, the USD has tanked in value compared to the TWD (Taiwan Dollar).

https://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=USDT...=on&z=l&q=l&c=

The higher prices are most likely a combination of normal inflation and the loss of value of the US Dollar. Before you tear your hair out over this, remember that this also encourages other nations to buy US goods, since it's relatively cheap for them. (Switzerland is also suffering from its currency getting too strong, since it's killing their export business.)

Between the price increases and the inferior color schemes, I'm glad I picked up that Allez earlier this year.
