Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What is this 'day off' you speak of? Must be how the kids are talking these days.

You need to HTFU and get like Gump. NO days off.

That doesn't work. I think we've established that.

I decided to take 4 or 5 days off, and stay around 500-600 miles per month to see if that improved my cycling. Just the opposite has happened. It makes you lazy, and my fitness, at least compared to last year is not as good. A day off every once in a while however does work. I think you will see that in your upcoming TT..

I do not have time to review all of your posts, which dare I say, would fill up three Vatican libraries. When was this established?

I agree with the Whooossshhher. I ride to work 5 days a week and when I take weekends off I feel like an oaf on Mondays. But then, I am somewhat oafish anyway. Try subbing a little ten miler instead of loafing on that, how do you call it, 'day off'?

Timing of my "rest days" is generally dictated by my non-cycling life.

Gee, I haven't given it much thought since grade school, but you may be onto something there, old man. I read about this guy from Nantucket once.......

I have been riding a lot more lately (Still nothing compared to PCAD stuff) and I feel so drained after 4 days in a row I can't imagine riding a fifth. Guess it comes in time, but I still take one to two rest days a week. Have to for now.

I quiver with anxiety when looking at the trainer in the g'rage. During the summer it works great as a rack when working on the drivetrain, but when those long days of December kick in, I miss my 7 day weeks. Emerging from winter is a M-W-F thing and weekends to recoup for the first month.

Talk to the gang over in Living Car Free. I'm pretty sure some of them ride every day of the year. This thread is dripping with whining. Exceptions to the whining rule are made for The Pope who puts in more miles than those of us who ride more days.

I did like 85+ days in a row. That's pretty stupid. But I can't help myself.
