Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yes it is a good shoe and you will most likely be happy with your purchase. I have shimano R220's that I'm trying to sell because they are the wrong size and going to replace them with specialized s works shoes.

My coworker went to Serotta fit school, has worked in the highest of highest end, and has also worked at a shop retailing Specialized.

He says, among other things, the BG fit system is horrid in design and will throw off your entire lineup.

I ride the Specialized Pro from a few years ago and they are great shoes...I will warn you that for 2011 they made a STUPID change to the attachement of the upper buckle on the side you can't see in the photos. It is a ratchet with no real secure attachement and it will pull loose. My wife got the MTB version which is the same show but with SPD cleat pattern and treads and they failed and failed. LBS refunded our money and she wound up with a lower version (still a Specialized shoe) that is fine.

Basically Specialized shoes are great...with the exception of this one design...and I can't tell if they fixed it for 2012 or not, if they did I would say go for it.

I tried on a lot of shoes. The Specialized Pro Road fit me perfectly.

This is the shoe I use and love them. Price has dropped considerably since I bought mine.

I'd like to know what it is, exactly, that makes your friend think the shoes themselves are such a bad design. I have common biomechanical faults in my feet, and, for me, the design makes sense and the shoes have been great.

If you did not need the design features, I can see them being problematic. But then, that goes for any shoe.

I am currently using S-Work MTB shoes and Sidi Dragons. The most comfortable cycling shoes I've tried. Also have Shimano MTB shoes...gets hot spots even properly fitted.

I don't use anything that high-end myself but I hear nothing but good things about the specialized lineup of shoes. (top end)

Love my Expert Road Carbons. Boa is sweet. The extra money is for stiffer.

$200 for these:

More for these, stiffer and double Boa.

The thing is, I don't have details. In all honesty, he's kind of a snide guy. I rode in Specialized shoes for awhile and they were quite comfy.

I think the issue mostly lies in his opinion of BG insoles. The metatarsal button is advertised as a good thing, where in reality it can be a real wrecking ball to the position of your feet, and thus to your fit. Plus, it's more often than not that these same buttons designed to stop numbing actually cause a great deal of it.

In addition, Specialized's foot shims aren't what you want - you want cleat shims. Far better approach to the same problem.

Again, not my opinion. Merely a restatement of useless facts on an already useless forum. Personally, I ride Superfeet insoles.

Cheers!

My Serotta fitter (Advanced, whatever that really means) doesn't like the insoles either, and recommended a set of eFit.
