Are carbon bikes more or less durable than aluminum?

I didn't ask my wife if I could buy it. I just went and felt a need one day, and all of a sudden I owned it. Funny how that can happen sometimes.

Descends like a rock
Steel bikes will rust right out from under you - somewhere around eleventy billion miles. Nothing is safe.

My worry is the carbon frame that gets hit, but shows no exterior damage. Could have interior damage, but who will know? Do you keep riding it? Got the front end of my bike hit by a car last Friday. (His fault, his ticket.) No marks on the CF Roubaix. But it is now suspect, isn't it? I mean would you buy such a frame used? I didn't think so. Would you keep riding it if his insurance won't replace it?
Now answer the same questions if it were steel or aluminum - and no visible damage. Then you'll know the difference in frame materials.
