Waxing your bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I definitely do. Just like your car, it helps keep your paint shiny and protected from the elements. Its also good for buffing out knicks and scrapes on the clear coat if you ride a bike that get parked in the city alot.

I wax it only because it helps the grease and tar come off when it's cleaning time.

I don't, i'll sometimes use a quick detail spray and microfiber towel but not too often. Usually just a damp rag or shop towel gets most of the dirt/grime off.

I just picked up some Meguiar's Synthetic spray on wax from Walmart the other day. I have never waxed my bike and rarely clean it, but I figured I'd give it a shot to see if it makes cleaning any easier. I remember this one time I actually took the effort to wax my old black SUV and the results were impressive. Not only did it look great, but I swear I didn't have to wash that thing for months and it looked clean the whole time. The wax keeps dust and dirt from sticking. IMO that's the greatest benefit. So I'm thinking if I wax my bike frames the road grime and spilled liquids won't stick to the clear coat as much. Should be an easy wipe down. Only thing is I don't know how well the synthetic spray on waxes work compared to the old school type that you apply, let dry, and then buff off. I'll have to see how it works out.

it's a tool not a jewel.

I prefer spending my time riding it.

I ride the crap out of my bike, but you would never know it. I do believe in waxing it, and it does help to keep it looking good.

I use Pedro's Bike Lust to keep it clean. Makes it SO much easier to wipe down with a wet cloth whenever you go through a dirty ride.

So is your car filthy as well? I agree with it being a tool but sometimes you have to clean it if it's filthy. Mud/dirt splatters on the downtube/under the saddle, etc. It would drive me nuts if i left it dirty.

^^^ Great stuff, I do it when I clean my drivetrain and cables. Adds five minutes to the job but makes it easier to clean next time round.

I spray down my entire bike after every ride and wax whenever I'm bored. Sometimes I wax it 3+ times a month.

I wax the bike about 1-2 times a season. Other than that, just a bath with a soapy rag and wipe dry to keep clean.
