Ridiculous Warranty Denials -- Just for you, LowCel
Dang it. Should read "Denials" not "Claims". Do me a favor, LowCel, and change it. ;-)

In the (OK, one of the) recent Trek warranty threads, I belittled LowCel for claiming that bicycle manufacturers will look for the most ridiculous of reasons to get out of a warranty claim.
Naturally, LowCel was no match for monsieur and ran off with his tail between his legs:

Point for me!
So, cut to my conversation the other day at the LBS, where the owner told me about how one of the major component manufacturers denied a warranty claim for a rear derailer because he had installed 1.1mm shifter cables instead of 1.2mm (or vice versa). Charged him $25.
Oh, and I should mention that it was the shop owner's bike and he's not shy about letting people know.
Oops.
Anyway. Point for LowCel!
(I've left the name out because I'm not sure if if was the component maker or the bike manufacture who processed the claim.)

The LBSs here say the bike manufacture handles warranty claims for the frame and parts with their name on it. Claims against other components are sent to their respective manufacturer. I know mine handled my frame (Specialized) and shifters (Shimano) that way. Both companies over-nighted replacements when the LBS explained that I rode a bazillion miles a year. Nice touch!

Since were not sending personal PM's anymore.
@LowCel, the avatar in your thread looks like he has "little tough dog" syndrome. Any chance we could get more pics of Johnny Rambo the dog.

I don't get it. Is there a question here or an intended point for us to contribute to the thread or is this just a point board for you two? Not knocking, just asking sincerely (BTW - didn't click in to read the other thread if that is where my answer is)....
