New wheels / new cassette?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New wheels / new cassette?

Hi all, so I went ahead and ordered a new set from Psimet (kingpin XR-300, WI H2/H3, CX-rays), and now I'm in the queue. While I wait patiently (ha!), I'm wondering whether to simply move over the cassette from my existing wheels (SRAM Rival) to the new set, or get a new cassette. So, is it hard to move and clean? If I get a new one for new wheels, will I need a new chain? If I clean, what a good solution to soak it in once off the current wheels. Current cassette/chain have about 1,000 miles on them.
Thanks,
Bryan

Depends what you are doing with the old wheels. I always freshen up the cassette and chain when I buy new wheels. Just my preference tho.

if you're keeping the old wheels, i'd keep the cassette on there too. that way, if you want to ride on them for some reason or use them on the trainer or something, you don't have to switch cassettes. so i'd get a new one unless you're getting rid of the wheels or literally never plan on using them.

remove: not at all, but you'll need a chain whip and lockring tool, neither of which is particularly expensive. also need a regular old wrench. clean: not really. take cassette off, soak in simple green or something for a few minutes, wipe down and rinse with water and let dry.

"need," no. but if it has 1000 miles and you're getting a new cassette, i'd get a new chain. keep the old one though. use the new one for 1000 miles, then switch back to the old one, go 1000 miles, etc. alternate until both chains (and probably the cassette too) are worn out.

clean the chain the same way as the cassette. toothbrush is a good tool for this.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the easy thing to do will be a new one and chain.
