Selling a bike...what should I do in prep?
Ok so I am selling my 3 month old Marin Argenta since I got my new bike. Of course I am going to clean it up as well as possible and make sure everything is in tune but is there anything else I should do? The wheels were prefessionally trued less than a month ago so they should be good. One thing I wonder about is the tires. I replaced the rear after the tire wore threw the belts so it has a fairly new Conti Ultra Gator Skin on it, the front however has the original Kenda Koncept which has like 700 miles on it and is looking worn. Unfortunatly no LBS in my town has the matching Conti in stock and I am wondering if I should bother to replace the Kenda or just let the new owner deal with it. So do I order the thing or just leave the Kenda?
Also where is the best place to seel this bike? I am guessing eBay will be where it ends up but am I going to get decent money for it? For reference it is an 03 MSRP is like $1095, I paid $750 and would like to get $400 out of it. Is $400 reasonable?
Thanks

As for the tires, just mention it in your ad and leave it.
Put that sucker on eBay and it's almost certain you'll get over $400 for it.

I hate reserves. I've never really understood the whole reserve thing. I say if you want $400 for it, just start it at $400.
They do suggest that you start things at a low price an more people will bid, but reserves piss some people off, so just start at $400. Actually, sometimes if you start it at a higher price people will think it's more valuable than it really is.

How fast do you want to sell it?
If you have the time, place ads at roadbikereview.com, here, and the Serotta site. Put one great picture with the ad and a short description. Offer more specs and pictures to respondents.
Beware of the scammers - the people that ask for your final price then tell you they have someone who owes them money who will send it to you and you'll refund the difference. On my last listing, I had 4 of them!
Do a complete list of specs and get 5-6 real good pictures. Price it fairly but don't undercut - it you want the quick sell, the Ebay is the way. Figure out what it's going to cost to have a shop pack and ship.
I sold my Lemond in about a month to a nice guy in Seattle this way. Having contact with the sellers without the pressure of a auction offers comfort to a lot of buyers.
