Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Psimet wheel owners - I need your help...

How do I pass the time while waiting for my wheels? Ordered them 2 weeks ago (WI H2/H3, Kinlin XR-300, x-ray spokes), and I can't wait. Rob was fully up front about the wait, so I'm not complaining, just excited.
So, what did you do to pass the time?
All words of encouragement appreciated,
Bryan

I road the stock wheels until they showed up and dreamed about how much better the new wheels would be.

I built a bike to put them on while I was waiting for my wheels.

Know that when your get your wheels, all pain of waiting will be forgotten. I've been through it twice. I know what I'm talking about.

...and then you realize that the new wheels don't make as much of a difference as you had hoped.

this is what I am afraid of. But dropping 1.5 pounds of weight has to make some difference!

I feel your pain. I'm 14 weeks into my wait as of today. It's tough to wait, but I know it'll be worth it.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have been riding, and doing charity work. Unfortunately, I threw my back out carrying donated cans into the local food panty yesterday, so I'm stuck indoors for a few. Will be back on the road this weekend, and will still be looking forward to the new wheels!

And what wheels are your replacing? And what's the weight of your new wheels (guesstimate since you don't have them yet) and old?

I got Kinlin xr-300 rims, 24/28 CX-ray spokes, white ind h2/h3 hubs. Weight should be in the 1550 ballpark. Replacing Askium wheels (about 1800) that came stock on my bike. Folks don't seem to throw around prices on bf, I'll just say the price was better than I could find elsewhere, and less than the sum of the parts if purchased separately at retail. In my book, that's a good deal.
I could have gone lighter and cheaper, but opted for the better hubs with the right number of spokes (lighter spokes were a "splurge" over dt comps, saved some weight-added some cost). I tried to do my research to get the sweet spot between quality/weight/cost (since the rule is you can have 2), Rob was incredibly helpful and responsive to my many e-mails.
Not trying to shill for Psimet (especially since I don't even have the wheels yet), but I can say that his responsiveness helped me feel like I was making an informed decision. Only downside is the wait - I'm now in "Psimet purgatory."

I have those exact wheels except for the dt spokes on mine. Love the hubs. Great wheels. 2,000 miles so far and not a hitch. There are lighter options, but I also went for more spokes as I'm a bigger rider and I felt a sturdy and safe wheel was better than shaving a few grams. After doing some research I also wanted the WI hubs (seemed best price/weight/durability option) so that also determines weight to a degree.

starting right now, I could withstand a 14 week wait if I felt the product and price was worth it.

however, if I rewind to 14 weeks ago... that's prime riding season. yeah, I don't think so.

Cuz you got no wheels otherwise? How does that work?

I was assuming that I'd have wheels or at least a second bike to ride. Obviously if you don't, you need to buy right away.

What I meant was that the wait for a new/better/lighter wheel is fine over the winter because I'm either bundled up outside or in my shorts on the trainer. Over the summer, every ride I'd be thinking about when my wheels are finally gonna get here.

I have the same wheels config although I got mine from ValleyCyclist. AWESOME replacement for my RS10s!
