Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

wheel compatibility.

Quick question,

would the KSYRIUM (possibly Sl, ELITE 650, or ELITE 700) (I know that is not that narrowed down) work on a Chrome-moly bike like the Bianchi Brava. I have the white one in my sig, not the new one. I really like the ksyrium wheels. If any has any input that would be great

If the elite 650 is a 650c wheel it won't work, assuming you have a frame built for 700c.

There are two wheel sizes, 650c and 700c. If you have a standard road bike, make sure to get 700c wheels. 650c are usually on womens specific and tri bikes

Also, Im pretty sure the mean guy comment was going to be how those wheels would be a waste of money and totally overkill for that bike. Kind of like putting Campy Record on a trek 1000 or something.

ya, but even still, you dont have to get ksyriums, especially SL's to upgrade your wheels. Just go on price point and look for a shimano 105 or Ultegra set.

i was just going to joke about how ksyriums only work on red carbon fiber or aluminum bikes. andthen go on about what a n00b you are...it probably wouldn't have been funny to begin with, and i'm sure it's not really funny now, since now there's been this whle build up to it...and i'm sure everyone was expecting some spectacular zing...

and yeah, the 650s won't work on our bike if it was built for 700s. i wasn't entirely sure if the 650 was a wheel size designation or a different model number. you could FORCE 650c wheels to work, but it's not recommended.

Of which the Kysriums are really neither.

yeah, ksyriums are pretty heavy for climbing.

check out some of the bontrager wheels, or american classics...or get some ultegra hubs and lace them to mavic open pros. 28H front, 32H rear, a lot easier to maintain, and they'll be lighter and cheaper than ksyriums.

wrong. ksyriums are like 1500 grams, my dura-ace open pro wheelset is about 1700grams. they were, admittedly, about 500 bucks cheaper, but they are certainly not lighter. they're good wheels though.

and while I wouldn't say that ksyruims are superlight, they aren't heavy by any stretch of the imagination. they are probably substantially lighter then the original posters stock wheels. probably a pound or more even.

Open pros, and either ultegra or DA hubs and butted spokes. You can get em with ultegras for $200 or less at supergo, pricepoint or jenson, but I'd spend a few more $$ and have them bult by excel or colorado cyclist. Also check the excel cirrus or nimbus wheels.
