Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sorry, this is one that gets me. If you pH level were seriously "out of balance" you'd be dead or on life support. If it were a little bit out of balance you'd be taking massive doses of chemotherapy or be seriously ill.

"Balancing your pH level" is total hooey.

along with the Food Babe and Modern Alternative Mama, Kangen Water is one of the world's greatest sources of idiocy.

I was under the impression that drinking enough high ph water gives you diarrhea... (cuz it kills the bacteria in your pipes)

Instead of drinking alkaline water, just eat hot peppers before riding. Capsaicin (an alkaline oil found in hot peppers) will not only boost the pH higher than Kangen does, but it is also a vasodilator which helps circulation. Be sure to eat enough to get the therapeutic effect...

Which, again, is utter nonsense.

“You can’t change your body’s pH, sir – if your pH changes, you’ll die,” I explained, in my most reassuring pharmacist voice.

Not to mention that 22mi is a moderate time trial length and not long enough to really need hydration or risk "bonking" of any type.

I like to mix Pellegrino in with one of my bottles of drinking water... That added bit of mineral taste does wonders when you're really working. It's cheaper, give it a shot...

Good post OP, good question... a lot of voodoo out there.
Where'd you dig this necro thread up?

It never ceases to amaze me what kind of idiotic things written in jest are taken as serious comments. It says something about the level of common sense here.

Protip to everyone out there: when someone suggests a solution that is obviously moronic and/or needlessly painful (especially following a post warning about water contaminated with "dihydrogen monoxide"), they're not serious -- not even in the 41.

Be safe out there, everyone -- hydration is important. Also, to reduce the risk of deadly bacterial infections entering through your scalp, be sure to toss your helmet in the washing machine after every ride.

They help pull you to bikes in front of you. They're even better for motorpacing.

This is the 41, so the confusion is understandable. There have been times when I assumed people were saying the dumbest things they could come up with for a bit of comic relief only to learn later that they were serious. Which is actually funnier when you get right down to it.

They suck all the electrolytes out of you. The only thing that helps is Kangen water

Hmmm, well what if could mount some small pyramids somewhere on my bike. They have magic powers for sure. And crystals, they align the chakra or something.
