Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the most I should pay for this bike?

Giant 2003 TCR Composite frame with the following:
Ultegra 53/39 cranks (172.5mm arms), 105 shifters and derailleurs, brand new Tektro brakes. Front wheel is Ultegra hub/ Mavic CXP33 28 spoke wheel (773 grams), rear is 105 with Mavic CXP 21 rim with 9-speed cogset (12-25).

It's my brother-in-law's bike and he let me take it for a ride - fits me will and seems to be in great condition. He said there's about 2-3k miles on it. I told him I'd think about it. I want to make an offer but in case he asks for more, I'd like an opinion on what's the most I should pay. Thanks!

frame is worth I'm guessing between $200-300..I sold a 2004 version of that same frame for $300 last fall. What are the rest of the bits worth to you?

Have your sister put pressure on him to "get that bike that you never ride out of the house," and then low-ball him.

DO NOT! I REPEAT! ...DO NOT INVOLVE YOUR SISTER IN ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES FINANCES OR TRUST WITH REGARDS TO YOUR BROTHER-IN-LAW!

That's just bad advice all 'round! It could prove to be a life-changing, relationship-altering, and teeth-grinding move that could possibly, permanently affect your future relationship with your sister, your brother-in-law, or both! It might even change the tone of their marriage. Therefore, keep it man to man without any BS involved. Make certain that you both are satisfied with the deal or just walk away. It's really better not to have any business dealings with family members or friends, anyway!

Be prepared to walk away...

Bike prices have taken a NOSEDIVE in the past couple of weeks due to the season being over and the cold snap.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it. I just missed a deal on a Synapse Carbon 6 with Hollowgram SL's for $700
