Decent, cheap glasses for cycling?
Is there such a thing?
I am a fan of quality glasses with quality optics. I have found that when driving I get headaches from cheap glasses. I decided to use that knowledge to buy a "nice" set if cycling specific glasses. Well, I found right away that (like many other activities) anything that is cycling "specific" costs too much, and is oftentimes of poor quality in spite of the price tag. Case in point, my set of Serfas glasses that broke within a year of wear. They had the convertible lenses, and the frame snapped right in half while changing lenses one evening.
K, so lesson learned. I went out the next time and bought some farily cheap glasses. They didn't last a month before the nosepiece snapped in half while taking them off one handed during a ride.
I have owned some other (supposed) high quality glasses in the past, like Oakley, and have been severely disappointed in their reliability. It isn't just me...I own several pair of decade old, and older, Serenghetti and the newer RayBan replacements. I know how to care for a quality set of glasses, I just have to FIND some..right?
Well, I pulled out a set of safety glasses that came FREE at my wife's work. I normally use them for weed eating and such. They are extrememly durable, but the cool factor is pretty low. I ask y'all, is there any such thing as a cheap set of riding glasses (impact resist and all that good stuff) that will last me longer than a month?

Didn't say quality, said decent. I know the old pick two addage....Manufacturers don't seem to have a problem bending those rules a bit anyway. Expensive and STILL poor quality is pretty common in cycling.

I've been pretty happy with the Performance ones I have. And they are inexpensive, approx 25-30 bucks when on sale.
But it's like saddles or shoes, you should go to the store and try them on to ensure there is proper fit.

There are a few discussions of this topic on the formum if you check.
I use industrial safety glasses. I purchased them from an industrial safety equipment company (McDonald's Safety Equipment in Newport, DE) and they are great. I am very concerned regarding my eyesight and also have problems with poor quality optics. These work perfectly. Since I need reading glasses I purchased the model with diopters built in. I purchased three pair, one clear, one lightly shaded and considered indoor/outdoor glasses and one pair of darker sunglasses.
They were $7.00 each. Without diopters they were $3.00 or $4.00. I've used them for thousands of miles in the past 4 years and find no reason to buy expensive glasses.

Yes, I can completely live with a good set of safety glasses with the caveat that they actually have good optics. I really like if I can get them w/o the company logo as well....lol. That is a price range that I can buy a half dozen sets of the style I like and stash them around the house for when they get scratched from dropping, or break taking them off one handed, etc. and not have a single problem with it. It does tick me off pretty bad when those kinds of failures (not the scratching) happen with a set that cost near a bill.

I discovered using remington shooting glasses (available at the Wal-Mart for under $10.00) works great. I have two pair - one set is a regular sunglasses type lens, and the other is a yellow lens, that works great for low light rides. They don't look hideous, either.

After losing my 2nd pair of $100+ cycling glasses I decided to give these a try https://www.mccordick.com/dept.asp?id...2E9#categories
They work really well. I got them at Home Depot

I am happy with my Tifosi's.
I'd love a pair of Oakley's, but don't want to drop the coin right now.

I wear "Mango" with silver frames from Amazon. works good for low light and high noon, the latter more like glare reducer but still works. Way too cheap at amazon https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-SB37-F.../dp/B003UY9CAM

If you have a local Performance, go in there and start trying them on. I have been very happy with their Scattante brand. I believe most of those are rebranded Optic Nerve sunglasses which usually sell for twice as much. I have not been too impressed with Tifosi. One pair had a poorly shaped lens that didn't fit snug and left an opening which I could see through the corner of my eye, and another pair had an imperfection in the nose piece that scratched the heck out of my nose. No problems with Scattante, although an earlier version (branded as Cat-1) did eventually have loose hinges after 3 years.

I'm wearing a pair of CAT-1 (Performance house brand before Scattante) from 2006. Still haven't broken them although there are some lens scratches. I wish I'd bought multiple pairs because they fit so well, have interchangeable lenses and are (very slowly) photo-chromatic. I've tried to find a similar replacement frame but haven't been successful. A lot of frames don't fit me well - I have a lower nose bridge and wider face than average.

Assos Zegho with Zeiss lens at CC. Only about $400.00.
Of course if not those I agree with others on Tifosi or Bolle.
I have many pairs of sunglasses and actually I love my SPY for driving and cycling. Very high quality lens and durable.

If you find the right manufacturer, you'll feel stupid for ever paying more than $6 for a pair of glasses.
Here's an helpful tip: nobody cares what kind of glasses you have on your face.

I just can't wear cheap sunglasses - the distortion drives me crazy. Love the Oakley Jawbones and M frames.
