Entry level stock bikes and the atrocities

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did a century in the nashbar saddle.. so I've got plenty of experience with this damn thing. haha. For sure a new saddle is at the top of the list for next season, but methinks the LBS will be the place of purchase for sake of finding the right saddle this time.

Correct. This is the 41st forum of bikeforums.net, and it routinely has more active visitors than all the other forums combined.

You think it could be the manufacturer of the bike and not the fact that it's an entry level bike? I bought an entry level Giant Defy 2 last October and still have all the OEM components on it. With 3,100 miles on the bike, I can honestly say that (knock on wood) I have yet to have a flat on the original tires.

I hate the 'race wheels' found on some entry level bikes. You know the ones. Heavy, low (sometimes paired) spoke count wheels that aren't deep enough to be aero (although they may say so on the side). But hey, they often give colored hubs and nipples and that's racy.

To that end, I would prefer all new bikes come with a training type wheel. If you aren't going to race it would serve you better and if you do race you probably want to choose your race wheels separately anyway.

The Kenda tires on my first Fuji Newest 3.0 lasted about 500 miles...just crap.

The adjustable stem on that bike seemed cool at first (what did I know?)...my wife still has a Newest and that stem is just hideous.

The best saddle I have ever ridden was a cheapo Specialized Phenom. Doesn't match the bike, though

That's the problem with my Brooks saddle...it's honey colored and my Secteur is black

And I'm currently stuck on the placeholder pedals since when I pulled my shoes out of the closet the left foot is missing its cleat for some reason!
