Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin Edge 500 bundle

Looking to buy a Garmin Edge 500 with heart rate monitor and cadence. The price is pretty consistent @ $350. I see that the base unit (without cadence sensor and HRM) is $250.

But separately I can get the HRM and cadence/speed sensor (GSC 10) for $45 and $36, respectively. I usually expect a bundle to be cheaper, but in this case it is ~$20 cheaper to buy separately.

Am I missing something?

OP, I bought my Edge 800 from Nashbar during a 15% off sale so that I could get a warranty from an authorized dealer. I got my HR strap and GSC-10's from Amazon like you suggest. I saved about $50 over the bundle on sale at Nashbar.

Thanks for the validation. That's my plan with the Edge 500. Nashbar has 20%-off one item ending today.

It looks like it's break even at 20% off ($280) for the 500.

I got my edge 500 bundle from Ebay for about $325 with the premium HR strap and cadence sensor. Not much of a savings.

Nope which is why I got the unit in the neutral color I wanted and got the other parts separately for less than the bundle.

Kind of strange, eh? If you poke around long enough you can even piece it together with the "premium" heart rate strap for less than the bundle price, if that matters to you.

I have the premium HR strap.

PBK was out because their bundle includes UK maps for the 800. Might work fine for the 500.

The GSC-10 and the original Garmin hard HR strap are compatible with the 500/800.
