Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Starting 2012

Our first dozen was 43 degrees, 25-45mph winds, and a few showers. Michigan winter is arriving. Anyone worse/better than this?

Mine was much better. First day of 2012 and I was riding in shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a vest. Wind ended up kicking my butt, other than that it was an awesome (easy) 30 mile ride.

Day 1 of the New Year (yesterday) - High was 34C/93F where we live, and 36C/97F in the town we visited today. Sunshine, light winds.

Day 2 of the New Year (today) - Even hotter than Day 1! Some areas near here are supposed to go to 40C today ... we're not supposed to get quite that hot, but close to it.

A bit hot for rides in the middle of the day.

Nice ride on my own. Only about 30 miles but nice to get out and stretch the legs.

Easy ride, 45 miles ride on Canada Rd to Los Altos and back. Group of four I was with had a slow pace, so on the way back, I hauled ass and was passing people on time trial bikes. My average speed on that section of rollers was 26 mph :O That's way faster than normal for me. Oh yeah, and I don't even have clipless on this road bike My toes got battered, lol

40's to start, 50's the rest. First real group ride with a team, they want me to race for them . 67 miles, longest for me in a LONG time. Held on just fine the whole time too. Big step for me, perfect way to start the year!

It's actually been unseasonally cool here the last couple of days, and I'm loving it. I got to ride in some beautiful rain on January 1. And while it didn't rain today, it was certainly much cooler than what I'm used to at this time of year. I think the weather forecast said it would only be 28 degrees C here today (which is just under 90F), and for once, they were right.
