Best cycling smartphone app?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best cycling smartphone app?

I currently use iMapMyRide and used to use Allsport GPS. Are there any other apps out there I should check out?

Garmin has a new one now that sinks with Garmin Connect. I have an edge 500 but if I want to track my trainer miles or my mountain bike miles I use this app so I have one repository for all my miles. It seems to work just as good as all the rest. Search "Garmin Fit" in the market. Also if you have an ant+ adapter for you phone it will also keep track of cadence, speed, foot pod for running and heart rate.

I normally hate it when people say this, but you might want to search on this. There have been several good threads on this topic recently. Might be better to re-hash one of those than start another.

another vote for strava. it's a decent tracker if you just want to record/map your ride, but what makes it cool (IMHO) is the social aspect. you can create segments, see rankings for climbs and sprints, connect with your friends and share rides...lots of fun stuff.

Used to use mapmy until I got tired of their buggy software and horrid customer service. Switched to Strava during one of mapmy's nonfunctional periods. Loved it and have not looked back. Works solid, low battery use on the iPhone, accurate, full featured and free...

Should be telling that I use free Strava instead of the mapmy that I paid for...

If you are not using an ant+ sensor you can just manually input the information from your training session or ride. This way you can document all of your rides in garmin connect.

Runkeeper. Strava seems good too but I've only used it a couple of times. I really disliked MapMyRide. No better functionality than the others but tons of ads and marketing spam.

No intention to thread-jack here, but since i've only recently gotten a smartphone, it caught my attention. Are you mounting your phone on the handlebars? Hiding it in a baggie in the jersey? Do you freak out when it drizzles? I just cant see putting such a delicate device on the handlebars. My Garmin Edge 305 is water resistant and worries me a lot less than my Android which would cost way more to replace. Just wondering.

i have Voicechat (TM). it's cool, you can talk directly into your device, and the person on the other end can hear you, real time, so it's like texting, only you don't have to push buttons. it's handy if you need a ride, or want to find out where people are.

Velodroid looks cool, but i haven't tried it yet (for android, $3)

I put it in a zip lock and in my jersey pocket. Regardless of whether you have a Garmin, I think you still need a phone in case of emergency.

Agreed. In the past I have put my dumb-phone in my saddle bag.

I've tried them all and prefer Cyclemeter. I've tried them all and find it to be the most customizable and full featured. Its iPhone only.

Are you mounting your phone on the handlebars?
I found a good mount:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/160664511649...84.m1439.l2649

If it's going to rain I have a waterproof case and I can just place the phone in my pocket. I don't need to be checking my speed, etc when it's raining. It could get tricky if I'm using my phone as a GPS on that day, but again, I have that waterproof case in case I need to check something.
