Yes I want one after tons of debate research, no I don't care if people know its a Motobecane. I work for a design firm, I hate crap graphics and logos. I'd strip a Moots frame too...
Would love to know if latest frame has clear coat.

Bk

Dang, it stinks that the first poster beat me to something I have wanted to use that post for since it was made.

Ok ok, being lazy, but really was imagining a sweet looking no brand bike, and clear coat is clear coat titanium or not.

sorry to say it but i think, bkdelux is right (for at least one MB bike anyway). i thought i had read it somewhere...
found this on mbtr.com:
Submitted by rubixcube a Racer from Gainesville
Date Reviewed: January 29, 2011
Strengths: components, vuelta wheelset, fork, geometry, TITANIUM
Weaknesses: no integrated bb or headset
27.2 seatpost size
ritchey pro components
saddle
kenda small block eights (no hookup, don't seal easily)
[ugly oversized decals which most people remove right away
however, they are under a clearcoat layer which makes removal very difficult. there is a whole thread elsewhere on various ways to do this. best way is to soak rags in acetone and tape them to the frame and allow them to sit for 30min.
using scotch bright will ruin the polish and leave the frame finish looking dull compared to the rest of the bike.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
could just be on some bikes. and i think i remember reading that the warranty is void if the logos are removed. but like you i would remove them if i could. usually i just run them with the headtube logo or badge if i can. low key.

Yes....allegedly. Never heard any stories of anyone testing the policy, though.
https://motobecane.com/warranty/
This warranty is void in its entirety by any modification of the frame, fork, components, removal of decals or any signs of bending/denting thereof. Bent or dented components, frame or fork would indicate abuse beyond the design of the bicycle

The words in the warranty are clear. And stories about claims being denied for "little things" seem common. It makes more sense to assume that the words will apply in fact.
Put another way, if one is really worried about needing the warranty, removing the decals seems foolish.

anyway, in court, i wouldn't be surprised if the policy would ultimately prove to be unenforceable. just a WAG.

I think if it were me, I'd ride the bike for a year. If no problems, and I really wanted the decals off, they'd come off. I'm of the opinion that if it doesn't break by then, it most likely wont. A gamble I'd be willing to take.

Care to expand? The Ti has a very good reputation. Do you have experiences with Moto and BD? Ever rode one? I ask because I'm going to be in the market in a couple of months and this is on my list of options. Any direct negative experiences would help me make my decision.

That's interesting, you'd think they would probably sell more bikes without clear coat knowing that people are prone to stripping the decals. I guess they really want their branding out there for Motobecane? Hmmm, doesn't make sense really.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has bought a MB Ti LATELY as to whether or not it is clear-coated. The rumor is that if it is, it is a recent addition. With all the inherent qualities of Ti, IF there is a clear-coat, I would think its sole purpose is to make removing the decals a PITA.

there's no doubt in my mind that bd added the clearcoat simply because of the decals. i'm sure they spent a pretty penny to get the rights to the motobecane name and they want to use it. now if only they spent a little more money on label design....

You don't think they would have mislead you with their email answer do you? It seems counter intuitive and an unnecessary cost to clear coat a titanium frame.

If people like the bike and see "Motobecane", they'll be lead to BD much more easily than with no name at all.

And honestly, it's not the name I object to. The logo is just sooooo dominant. If they would offer the outlines on all their frames, I'd have no issues leaving it alone.

The last time we had a MB Ti in for repair was about a month ago.
I weigh 125pounds, but I put down some power in a sprint.
Finished the service on the bike, took it out to our side street and did some out of the saddle high-cadence sprints (meaning, in the low ring). The frame flexed so much under my skinny be-hind that the chain dropped.
...and I know how to adjust a front derailleur.
