Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LBS - Sacramento CA

I will be in the Sacramento-Auburn-Sutter Creek areas for work in the near future. Any suggestions on a must see bike shop in the area if I need to kill some time?

Thanks!

There are a LOT of shops in the area. Folsom Bike and Rex Cycles to name just 2.

Definitely City Bicycle Works on 25th and K Streets. They are my favorite LBS. I've been going there since the late 80s, and the service is great! Lots of friendly employees and good deals on bikes.

Ask 3alarmer, he seems to know a lot of good shops in Sac.

I've had great experiences with The Bike Biz. They do a lot of business with the cyclocross/fixed, but really know their stuff.

There are quite a few, but I'm partial to the Bike Biz (it's my local neighborhood shop), City Bike Works (my team shop), and Rex Cycles (because it's where beautiful handmade works of arts are born).

I wanted to like the Bike Biz. They're two blocks from my house. But, their selection is tiny, and they took like three weeks to do a wheel build for me. Argh.

Go visit Victory Velo in Auburn (downtown Auburn).

And for scavenging odd, old parts on the cheap, go to the Sacramento Bike Kitchen @ 1915 I street in Mid-town Sac.

It's true that they don't have the biggest selection. And it's also true that wheel builds are slow, but I have been generally had really good experiences with them. Ran in there yesterday to buy some rim cement and had a nice chat with one of their guys.
