Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tire for carbon rims

I have the Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL Wheelset and last year ran 4000-s tires and they were great. The only issue was that the wheels seems big and or the tires are small.

The 4000-s are starting to show wear and I thinking that it time to purchase a new set of tires. So my question is their a brand of tire that is larger so that it will mount better and will they be as good as the 4000-S?

It works quite well but rather not have to carry it.

Cosmic Carbone SL's are not full carbon clinchers from what I know (Atleast my set isnt). Unless you have a Cosmic Carbone Ultimate all the Cosmic Carbones are an aluminum rim with a carbon Fairing. In that case it doesn't really matter when it comes to tires, mounting them would pose no risk of damaging the carbon (Unless you are doing something VERY VERY wrong)

One experience that I have had that has been negative is trying to get my Michelin Krylion Carbons (Har har har) onto that rim. I have pinched sooo many tubes doing that.

I would guess you may have better luck with a tire that has a wire bead. I know my Krylions are kevlar and I don't know about the 4000s but I think it is also kevlar (could be wrong though)

Yes they are aluminum rim but they seem larger/higher than typical wheels and it is a real pain to mount tires. I think this is true of most carbon wheels.
