Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Front Derailleur- Rival, Force or Shimano????

So I recently purchase Rival shifters and RD from a fellow BF member which will replace 5600 shifters and an Ultegra 6600 RD.
My question is what to do about the FD? I like to go with Rival so that everything will match, but I don't want to sacrifice front shifting. Will Rival be sufficient or should I consider a Force FD (I have heard too much bad about Red to consider it)?
Or, should I stick with the 105(5600) FD that I currently have, and just accept that it won't match.

What combo with retain the best shifting?

Thanks.

Any of the above. I believe Rival/Force RD are identical save the black vs. grey bits. I also believe it will work with a Shimano FD (5600 or 6600, I *believe* things may have changed for the latest Shimano bits) but double check this. Red is lighter, but has come under scrutiny since the titanium used the derailleur cage has been said to be less stiff than the non-titanium (steel I think) Rival/Force models.

In short, Rival would be fine. What type of crank are you using? I would use a Shimano crank (again research this, but I know previous gen will definitely work)

My thinking would be to save money and just use your shimano FD. I'm using a 6700 FD with an otherwise all sram group and it works great. Not a lot of real estate on a front derailleur for advertising so it doesn't really look out of place or like it doesn't belong.

I know they will all work, I'm just curious whether switching to Rival will sacrifice any performance. I have an FSA Gossamer crank, but I've heard that the Shimano cranks shift really well. It's only $40 for the Rival FD and I would be getting a newer part. And who doesn't want their bike to look nice .
