First Jersey- Fit Question
I've bought my first road bike and just got a jersey as a gift. I've used search to find previous threads on how they should fit, but I'm still a little clueless.
I'm 5'10'' 165lbs and on the skinny side, build-wise, and usually wear a M size shirt. My brother gave me a M Perl Izumi Quest jersey, which feels perfect while I'm standing up (snug without stretching) but when I lean over, to simulate my position on the bike, I notice that it sags an inch or two at the zipper near my belly button. Does this mean I should try and squeeze into the small, which doesn't sag, but feels like i'm stretching it a little? Thanks.

No, I think it fits you fine.
It's the full-length zipper that you don't like. Half-zip or 1/4-zip jerseys don't really do that "zipper-bunching" thing, but it's harder to get them on/off.
I'm your size, and I wear Medium jerseys in just about every brand I've tried.

I weight less and am about two inches taller I just buy tall/mediums and they fit great. I think you are right where you need to be.

First of all I hate you:-0) I haven't been that size or weight since I was in the eighth grade. Welcome to jersey fit club. The sizing is all over the place. It depends on several things, what country it was made in and the style, Race or Club fit. Good luck.

Personally I prefer my jerseys to fit snug, so I'd go small in your situation, as I prefer to avoid having my jersey flap about when I'm riding. Having said that, a little bit of that sag isn't too bad, but in general, I'd recommend with making your call on how it fits when you're riding it.

+1 for the zip v.s quarter zip advice. My full length zip jerseys bunch up too...
Where do you get tall/mediums? I'm tall and find it a constant struggle to find jerseys that don't finish half way up my stomach.
What brands?
What brands?

Also try on different brands and models of jersies. Pearl Izumi tends to make their lower end product lines more baggy in the belly. Some other brands may have better fitting (for you) products in the same price range.

As a side note, what the hell? How does a 6'1" tall dude wear a small? Is this a sign of the ever growing girth of people these days? I'm not *that* skinny.

I prefer my jerseys to fit close to the skin. I'm 5'8" and 150. I wear a small in club cut and medium in race.
Some European brand may fit smaller than the US brands. I know Pearl Izumi is more true to size vs Castelli.

Aint that the truth - I'm 6'5", 220 and wear a large in all article of clothing...so I ordered some Castelli and large is essentially a medium.

To me jerseys are like saddles, shoes, gloves etc. You have to try many to find what's you. From your description it sounds like a good fit but shop around, try different brands and see if you like something else better. Half or 3/4 zips annoy me personally but some prefer them. There's no right or wrong, it's up to you and what you find comfortable.

Thanks. Measured my chest and looked at the Izumi sizing charts. That confirmed I'm right on the cusp between a S and M, so I'll keep the M I've got and then try some different brands in the future.

Yes. They have different cuts. Higher end jerseys are often tailored to fit well in a lower "race" position. These will feel tight across the chest and stomach until you assume a more "aggressive" riding position. So called "club fit" jerseys are cut more like close fitting t-shirts and are more accommodating of a little pudge and paunch. They might behave as you describe, getting loose in the front and perhaps billowing atop your shoulders when you're in a riding position. You need to try various brands and specific models to find those that fit they way you like.
