Single pivot brake bolt comes loose

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Single pivot brake bolt comes loose

The front nut of the center bolt on my single pivot brakes slowly comes loose as I brake. It doesn't seem to adversely effect braking ability, but I'm worried about it slowly coming all the way off if I don't keep screwing it back on. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

that'd be my choice, too. Any auto parts or hardware store will stock it. There are two or three different kinds (haven't used it in awhile), for stuff you take apart occasionally and stuff you probably won't take apart for awhile. Probably doesn't matter which you use--that's a pretty low-stress application.
For future reference, if you don't have Loctite you can also try a dab of paint or nail polish on the threads or rub beeswax on the bolt. But Loctite.

most, if not all, of the single pivot brakes i use have a double nut on the front. the first one on is often very very thin and the last one on is usually cone shaped or rounded. adjust them in opposite directions until tight. works just like the hub bearing races and locknuts. shouldn't be any need for locktite if yours are like mine.

If you use loctite make sure its blue and not red, because red will make it very hard if impossible to get apart

I agree I would like to know more about the brake. When you say "front nut" your refering to the fancy domed capnut? It is possible something is missing or nit adjusted properly. As Hueyhoolihan points out a brake with 2 nuts on the need to be correctly adjusted, just like bearing cones.

Pics?
