Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nashbar gone carbon!

https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0_10000_202339

Even nashbar is building carbon bikes now. I like the idea of a plain black carbon bike, but not getting on carbon until I no longer a clyde.....

I love the lack of decals. A really light frame too. I wonder how the warranty would work.

Wow, that looks really nice. I do not like the 4600 levers with the optical indicator, but easily changed to some other 10 speed stuff I have lying around.

Nashbar is owned by Performance, which has been selling carbon Scattante frames for several years.

That's a really good price on that spec of a bike. I think it would be impossible to build that bike with an Ebay carbon frame for that price.

I agree. I am not getting a new bike until next year, and was thinking of cheap ebay carbon, but would totally get this one, then swap out some parts. (i am an Sram fan)

Looks nice. I agree - the lack of decals helps a lot.

Last year, Nashbar had 3 or 4 full carbon bikes under a Cavalo brand, with Apex, Rival, Force, and Red full groups for ridiculously low prices (especially when they fell in sink with 20% off sales). They did not seem to sell any, as I think only 1 review was posted across all of them, and they pulled the plug. They always looked tempting, but they didn't seem to move.

Am I seeing this right? Is that the rear brake cable showing under the top tube.
The top tube is not straight and the cable is external?

Who's gonna be the first?
Looking forward to write-ups.

edit: just noticed it's mostly Tiagra, would have been sweet it was more 105, for a few more bones.

Same ballpark models at Nashbar are frequently [STRIKE]cheaper[/STRIKE] less expensive than equal Performance/Scat models. Both owned by the same Holding Company, so same diff.

I'm super weary of seeing swoopy matte black carbon frames, but I won't deny that is a decent deal.

I've heard people say that before, but I've never seen any evidence that was true. PB is based out of Chapel Hill, NC. I've asked several folks in the various stores if they were aware of that, and they weren't, not to say they would know anyway.

where did you hear that? I would just like to confirm it. thanks.

A Hoovers or Dun & Bradstreet search will confirm this.

Once I got some item from perfromancebikes.com and the confirmation mail came from nashbar.com :-)

i sort of agree. that stuff looks too much like black plastic plumbing pipe to me. but there's always paint!

maybe it's recalling too many dreary days trimming that stuff (black plastic plumbing fixtures) at the local Celanese injection molding plant a few decades ago.

FWIW, I have purchased two bikes form Nashbar, still riding one of them (sold the other). The quality and service is there, so any notion of these carbon frames being comparable to Chinese knock-offs should be stuffed in a sack.
