    Masi Alare 2012-Your Thoughts

I REALLY like the color scheme of this bike, how does it match up performance wise to a CAAD or a Trek/Fuji/etc(its a shame most of the other bike companies dont allow a person to do custom paint schemes)?

    This bike is sick:

    I also like this Masi:

my first road bike was a 2009 alare. My wife still rides hers. For an entry level bike it is just as good as any other. Full sora with Tiagra rear d. The wheels are crap but all bikes at that price range pretty much are. You have to look at it every time you ride it so if you like it get it.

Are you looking to actually purchase a bike? What's your budget? I'm guessing sub-$1,000?

I am & my budget is around $3000. Figured this could be a decent bike w/ some $$ left over for upgrades(wheelset/pedals/etc)

Any reason you want a Masi? The color scheme is one thing but it has mostly Sora components.

For a similar amount you can get a Fuji Roubaix 2.0 w/ Tiagra or even a Scattante R570 which has 105.

    Have you checked CL?

If you're looking for just thoughts on those two bikes, I haven't heard much about Masi bikes, but I haven't heard anything bad either. The Alare is definitely better than the other, component-wise.

However, with your budget, in comparison to what you could be getting, you should be looking at other bikes. If you want to stay comfortable in your $3000 budget, look for a bike equipped with 105 or SRAM Rival between $1000-1600.

Quality wise, the jump from Tiagra components to 105 is probably the largest one, and the most worthwhile to make.

It seems to me that you came here a year ago and have been looking at bikes this whole time without buying one. Don't fret about getting the best possible bike for the money, just buy a bike and ride it!

Just getting info on bikes, I have checked CL too. Havent heard many here talk about Masi either way, so I was trying to gather more info on them.

I remember Masi bikes from the late 70's and they were drool-factor gorgeous. Beautiful crowned fork, Columbus tubing (???) and full Campagnolo Record equipped. These newest iterations do not seem to have the same magic from multiple perspectives. In short -nothing too distinguishing about it. With your budget I bet you could get on higher performance Italian/ Taiwanese bike? Colnago, Pinarello, Bianchi all come to mind.

    Cheers,

    Essex

This is not the same Masi of old, this is basically Haro's line of Road Bikes, my LBS sells masi's. They are pretty neat, but far to expensive for what you get. They rely on their marketing of "Italian made" bikes. Meh. I've seen that blue Allure before, it was sold too, very nice looking bike. If I were you I'd look at Specialized they have better bikes.

A Sora BD bike will be about half the price of the Masi.

Technically, I believe sucking and blowing at the same time just cancel each other out.

    Hence, Masis are completely still.

I second that you look for a Shimano 105 or SRAM Rival equipped bike around $1,500 (or $2,000 if you want carbon). It's the value for the money because the components will last far longer, and it's usually put on a frame that'll be worth upgrading more. The Alare wouldn't be worth upgrading despite the colors because the cost of upgrading it to the level of the bikes with 105 would cost a WHOLE LOT more!

    Check these ones out:

P.S. Don't go with Bikes Direct for the first because you won't have a shop helping you out for fitting, spec choices, 30-day tuneup, etc.
