Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks for all of the great advice guys. After careful consideration and much deliberation, I've decided to sleep with her sister.

Claim early onset of Alzheimer's Disease. A Doctor's note would help. Just not from your riding buddy. If that doesn't work, claim Alzheimer's. Valuable presents might help but not by much. If none of this works, just go ride.

If any of you knew women as good as I do, you’d realized that:
1- She already knows about it.
2- She is happy and relieved that the bike is gone.
3-She is waiting for an opportunity to give you the god’s grief over this at an appropriate time followed by some unforeseen retaliatory act.

Tell her you were taking it for a test ride around the block to give all the fancy new components you bought for her a run-down....and you got literally run down by a car. Cops took the bike for evidence....you threw it away to avoid her possible pain of seeing it's mangled corpse....your choice of end result obviously.

The wife knows, to throw things out I don't use for a while, without asking, seems to work out okay as she knows not to throw out things I use and want. But eliminates a lot of the clutter. If she had not biked in 3 years and I sold it, or gave it away, she wouldn't say a word I don't think, and neither would I.

For men perhaps. She'd probably love the excuse to go shopping and pick out "her" bike herself if she did want to ride again.

Too true, its one, or two, or all three of these points. I wouldn't even talk about it until say April/May when she might want to bike again and just pick up a new one for her, for my first point above, her shopping for "her" bike.

Evaluate the situation. Sometimes asking for permission is safer.

Buy her a new one.

"I know you havn't ridden in 3 years, and I thought maybe the old bike had bad juju. So I bought you a new one."

Selling her old one without asking is way uncool.
