Some brain pickin'
Hey guys,
Somewhat of a newbie here, and I'd love to be able to get some opinions and thoughts on a used 2005 Jamis Eclipse.
I'll be riding it primarily as a commuter in San Francisco, but I also love stretching my legs and going for longer weekend rides (20-50miles). I'm 6 feet tall, and weigh in at a "healthy" 200lbs. My legs are a bit long, and my torso slightly shorter than most in my range.
The 2005 Eclipse has the combo Reynolds 853 aluminum with carbon fiber. The bike is 59cm. Given that this is my first "light" bike, how do you think I'll fare with the carbon fiber given my weight?
Also, I'd be curious to hear what you think might be market value for it (remember I'm in SF). Here's some more info:
24 speed shimano tiagra, Wing flex seat, shimano sora flight deck triple, fsa ea70, Easton ec70 fork. Tektro breaks.
Not the best the components, but that's not a priority for me.
Thoughts?

You'll be fine with the CF frame. And btw,Reynolds 853 is steel, not aluminum. However 59 cm may be a bit big for you. Depending on condition, I'd guess a price around $500-750.

Yeah that sounds big even with longer legs. 200 isn't too big for carbon. Go to any american event ride if you want proof.

So you guys think 59 might be too big? My legs measure 34" whereas 32" is the norm for guys my height. Some sizing charts put me in the 59cm range.
As usual, I know sizing charts should act only as a guide, and I'll update you guys on how it feels.

Are you talking 34" cycling inseam, or 34" pants inseam?
What really matters in the fit is the lenght of the top tube. If you have comparitvely long legs, and short torso, then the issue with the 59cm frame will be the reach to the bars.
No one can say whether the 59 will fit you, you just need to try it out. What you don't want to do, is buy a bike knowing it doesn't quite fit because you're getting a deal.
