Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DeRosa Planet questions

Hi, have the chance to put my hands in a DeRosa planet with almost no mileage and not even a single scratch in the paint job. Any info about this frames??? I know it wont be a super comfortable ride but I have never tried dedacciai tubing, less aluminum and I believe some Planets even came with scandium tubing. So far the bike is built full dura ace 9 (i believe) weights the same than any heavy carbon bike so pretty much is ok. The other thing is that since is not columbus tubing and given the frame maker probably the ride is comfortable. I don't need the bike so i'm working out a deal to get only the frame and built that with campagnolo and tubulars as it should be.

Any info about the planet frames??? anybody has one?? How much was one of these frames back 2003ish??

Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks!

DeRosa Planet alumimum framesets are absolutely fantastic. Mine had an intergrated headset and the black sparkly paintjob. The geometry (56) was along the lines of the Pinarellos of the time with a 99cm (+-) wheelbase if I remember correctly.
Aluminum as a frame material can be awesome, but only the top tier stuff really shines IMO.
I ran a Record carbon post, and the ride was ultra comfortable. The smoothness of the ride was mindblowing.
I will snag another in a heart beat (T-boned by a car, flew into a newspaper machine.....with me on it!).

You had better get it!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot man... those are the things i really dont know about the ride and kind'a gave me more confidence. De rosa always got the geometry right but i really did not know how the ride was. My old ridley was ok but after 2 hours u wanted to kill yourself... the ride i miss is my old kuota kharma and my half alu/carbon BMC road racer, that thing rode insuperably. So kind'a was looking sometihng with bling bling and that was racy (like racy bikes) enough...

Thanks again...
