Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who's the oldest person in the road forum...?

Hopefully, this thread will reveal a bunch of roadies riding late into their sunset years ... giving the rest of us something to look forward to. Just how old can people be and still ride regularly?

Don't know about the road forum, but there was at least one roadie in the fifty-plus forum who was riding 1000 miles per month at age 80.

I do close to his sort of mileage, but I'm still an adolescent of 57.

That's 1/2 a heart more than I would have guessed.

I am 54 but last summer I was passed on a hill climb by a 78 year old 100 lb lady. However, I have since had surgery to repair a respitory problem. I think I can kick her butt now.

I find this very encouraging, in a long term sort of way. Mind you, I'm planning on having a fountain of youth, but, if that doesn't work out...

You have one, it's your bike. I've seen at least one study that found regular cyclists in their sixties to have an apparent age 10 years younger than their non-cyclist contemporaries.

It's good to have goals. Beating a 79 year old lady up a climb sounds like a very reasonable one.
