I live in a desert. Armadillo or Gatorskin?

I live in the middle of the southern Arizona desert (Tucson, blegh). Was wondering which tire people generally think is better, and why?

I live in Reno, which is high desert and Home Of The Goatheads. Got no experience with Gatorskins, but I did try Armadillos several years ago. They MAY have reduced the number of punctures a bit, but I still got plenty (including nine in a single century), and I hated the way they felt, way too stiff and clunky (newer ones could be better). I'm using Panaracer Pasela TGs now, and I love them.

I don't know anything about goatheads, but you might want to consider the Schwalbe Marathon Plus line if you're willing to sacrifice weight/rolling resistance for flat protection. I think in general they're heavier and slower than the gatorskins or armadillos, but that's because they have more flat protection.

Are armadillos significantly heavier than gatorskin, or is it only noticable if you have been cycling for years already? I guess from what I've read, armadillos provide more protection but are a lot heavier than gatorskins. Not sure if it matters at all for someone who is just getting back into riding

I don't know about the Elites, but my wired 25mm Armadillos are noticeably slower and heavier than wired 25mm Gatorskins. However, I don't think the puncture protection on the Gatorskins is all that great. I don't enjoy riding the dillos - way too much effort to go slower than usual. The ride on the gators is remarkably plusher and faster. Maybe the folding Elites are better?

Conti 4000-S will give a much better ride.
