Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When I was a kid we also had a greyhound/German shepherd mix. Extremely docile dog, but there was no way we could outrun him on foot or bike.

I've never been chased by a dog on my bike, though I've been bitten by one when off the bike (stupid Jack Russell Terrier and stupid owner).

LoL did your dog also just want to run around all day long every day? I think there's still a track embedded along our fence line from her running back and forth.
Jack Russell's attitude's usually reflect the owners.. so stupid owner more fits. Sorry to hear.

Oh yeah? Well, our greyhound can out eat and out sleep your border collie. Any day of the week. So there.

There are some Catahoula cattle dogs in the area. They work in a pack of three and man are they fast. Can't outrun them as they can see you coming and are waiting in the ditch. They are ranch dogs so not viscious but they love to herd anything that moves. I've walked my bike out of their territory a couple of times which diappoints the hell out of them. They follow along at a slow lope for a while then loose interest and wander home. I've mentioned before about a semi-ferral collie up north that pops up anywhere over several miles of various roads in the area. PITA and rather viscious. I don't trust that one at all and avoid him at all costs. I've had to outrun him twice and it ain't easy. One of the few animals I'd pepper spray.

A Collie, surprisingly enough, was the fastest dog to ever chase me. I was descending a winding road, and that dog was keeping up pretty good.

I have known many greyhounds... all rescues...and all wonderful animals that are about as calm as they come when they are not tearing it up at 40 miles per hour.

Border Collies like to go from dusk to dawn and you need a friend with a greyhound to wear them out.

Collies can be pretty fast. I had one that wanted to race me down a hill and was a sore loser, once I pulled ahead, it starting a high pitch yapping bark as it ran its heart out. It did this a few times and now it just trots along as I climb the hill and does not try to race me down the other side.

Why wait? Contact the owner now before you get nailed. Either that or call the police out on it.

Good point. I guess I was hoping to train the dog (it's worked on most of my other problems dogs) and I have not felt like stopping.

hmm, it was either the hound of the baskervilles or cerberus. it was black, and hellfire glowed in its eyes.
